well iv not long had my disco and it wasnt looked after to well but my mpg before the services was 27 mpg and after a full service it is now doin 36 mpg and iv got the de cat to do yet

Yup :)- I know all cars do well with a service, but in my experience the Disco benefits from them more than any other I've had. My experience was similar when I bought my TD5. I now service more regularly than the `official schedule' for everything. I changed my gearbox oil recently and noticed an immediate change in driving `smoothness' - though not I suspect MPG.

Some of the `official service periods are fine - such as 6k for engine oil and filters (especially with better, longer lasting oils being developed) but others are too long in my view:
36,000 miles for 3 years for the air filter and coolant renewal
96,000 miles for the axle oil renewal
24,000 or 2 years for gearbox, transfer box and fuel filter renewal
12,000 miles for the prop shaft lubrication

I tend to include all the above in an annual service, though I'd time the lubrication of the propshaft with an engine oil change. If you go to a garage for an annual service some of these jobs will never get done. My axle oil hadnt been changed for 124K miles when I bought my car, though lots of `annual services' and it was a sliver gunge when drained out. I realise I'm preaching to the converted but regular Oil and filter changes are one of the best things an owner can do to a car - especially a Disco!

yep dats all filters and oil in it and all the years iv been a mechanic iv never seen such a big improvement from a service!

isnt there ment to be some sort of filter near the tank on this truck n when is a cambelt due?

There is a fuel sedimenter just in front of the offside rear wheel.

LR say 72,000mls or 6yrs for cambelt. Most owners do them at 36,000mls or 3 yrs.
