called at my mates today and saw that his disco was sporting a moonraker antenna kit which was a mag mount, short fixed antenna that screwed to the mag mount, and a slightly longer antenna that you screwed both antennas together to make it longer that screwed to the mag mount on a spring, and wondered what your thoughts were about it.

atm i have a springer antenna that screws to a dv mount and was thinking of fixing it to the centre of the roof would this type of antenna be better what do you think.

centre off roof alway best for transmitting
if u put it to the back it will make the signal a bit direction ( gets tecnical )
make sure swr is below 1.5 and see people that have cut antenna down so they can use off road this is no good at all as it will soon blow the pa in rig cos it will make swr above 1.5
not sure about the antenna that your m8t as but sirio was a good antenna for cb

Yes things do get techical, if you realy look at it SWR, does not have to be below 1.5, yes it is better if it is, as long as it is below 3:1 then you should have no problems with the reflection of the signal back into the CB.

Where you place the Anttena does change the progeration of the signal, but in the real world as long as you can talk and chat to the guys/girls in front and behind, who are only a few meters away.

As far as cutting down the Anttena goes for off road, as long as an anttena is a fraction of the full wave lengh then ther will be no problem, i.e 1, 3/4, 1/2, 3/8, 1/4, 1/8 wave lengh........ most of the sorter whips you can buy pre made....for example the two top stingers

I have one of each, I personaly like a long whip:p, but find the shorter better for off road. My SWR is about 1.9 to 2.3 ish depends on where you are as buildings, ect can make a differance, and to get the same SWR when you use differant Anttenas on both is near very difficault/time consuming, I know what I would perfere to be doing - using it when green laning.

3.1 swr not sure about that i deff not run any of mine like that and have radios that shut down about about 1.6 not cbs and cost fron £600to £3000 but but work just the same as my £90 cb to much swr and it drobs the power of a littal i always make sure below 1.5 for me
