My 300 tdi has needed a lot of cranking lately to fire-she runs on 100% home brew bio-hasn't seen derv since July 2009.
Fitted clear pipe throughout under bonnet to see what was going on.
Loads of air in pipes from lift pump to filter and loads from filter to i/p,the old girl was struggling to tickover and i/p was buzzing.
Took sedementer off to check seal-retightened sedementer and restarted-air slowly cleared, until no air at all -result.Left her ticking over for an hour, revving occasionally.
Opened filler cap to put more fuel in and immediately started dying again-checked the pipes-full of air again-wtf.
Cleared out boot to get to tank connections-all checked out ok.
Then ran a pipe straight from tank filler to lift pump-the pipe to the pump was air free, but the output side of the pump was pushing air-bloody britpart-this was new in Feb removed the lift pump and replaced it with my old delphi-problem solved and she runs a good un.The britpart pump had been leaking round the back,so I now have some bio in the sump oil-so an oil change is in order now-If you run bio,do not bother fitting a britpart lift pump
