Hi guys, recently cured air in fuel line problem on my 98 300 tdi auto & all was fine until yesterday, filled up with fuel & now running lumpy on tickover, also when stationary & rev to 2000-2250rpm running lumpy.Take for drive & sometimes nearly cuts out at junctions, but will drive without fault once on the move & goes like a rocket ( well by disco standards ). Have recently cleaned sedimenter, changed fuel filter & lift pump, also fitted clear fuel pipe between lift pump & filter, no sign of any air bubbles at all. Any thoughts would be appreciated as have done search & drawn a blank.

Started her up tonight, running very lumpy, blipped throttle couple of times & left her running for a minute & she was ticking over nicely, built revs up to around 2000rpm & again no problems.
Went for test drive, she didnt mis a beat, very strange.
Is it within the realms of posibility that when refueling any crud in tank could be disturbed & cause fuel starvation symptoms or air ingress symptoms?
Any ideas would be greatfully recived.

Been under the old girl all day today ( landy that is ) its driving me mad now think iam gonna admit defeat & get it looked at, unless anyone has any bright ideas.
turn key & she fires then finally starts after couple of goes, but very lumpy. Starts coughing & farting around 2000rpm after that will rev right up to 4500rpm & beyond if i tried.
Disconnected fuel line at lift pump fitted pipe in jar of fuel started & ticked over fine!! disconnect other end at sedimentor & fitted to air line to blow out any crap, but nothing. Then tried pipe & jar tank side of sedimentor, started & run fine!! Disconnectedpipe at tank sender unit & again fitted to air line, still no crap. Also put air line on leak off pipe still no crap.Removed sender unit had look in tank, theres a white plastic cup in bottom which pick up & drain off pipes sit in, which i asume is some kinda crap trap but it looked clean couldnt see anything else as its 3/4 full!! Fitted new sender unit put it all back together & guss wot still the FOOKING same!! Bypassed sedimentor made no differance:doh::doh::doh::doh:

HI Guys, it won't start at all now, it's firing but just won't start .
had someone have a look at it yesterday & he said it could be stop solonid as it was making ticking noise when ignition turned on, changed it tonight & no different & still ticking. connected jar of fuel to lift pump & still no joy, might try gallon petrol & box of matches next!!
Any ideas wellcome.

Put a direct 12v feed from the battery to the solenoid and try starting again, you may have an issue with the spider. My friend had the same problem with the starting, would fire but not start. Try this and let us know how you get on.

HTH,
Lew

Hi all, thanks for tip Discolew, tried it tonight but no luck. With soloniod connected to battery, when ignition turned on it's still ticking / buzzing, fires but won't start. I tried it again with plunger & spring removed but still same, back to square one!! Seems to be one of lifes unexplained mysteries. Have got a guy taking a look on Sunday so fingers crossed, much to the discussed of er in doors, as it's mothers day. I told her your not my mum so can't see the problem!!:p:p
Will update next week.

Right so its not that. When you cleaned the sedimenter, did you tighten it up enough? When I did mine, I didn't tighten it up enough and had a very lumpy idle as a result due to it sucking air.

HTH,
Lew

You have checked the air inlet pipes for leaks or a pipe not replaced properly and leaking? Also have you got an air flow meter? Could be faulty.

Hi Guys, thanks for replies, have fitted clear fuel pipe between lift pump & filter, can't see any bubbles so asume no air in fuel system.
When trying to start, diesel fumes & grayish smoke coming from exhaust.
Will check air intake pipes this afternoon, but not too sure how to check air flow meter, any ideas on this would be great.

Would like to a BIG thankyou to all you guys for information recived, as i knew nothing about Land Rovers before joining this forum.

Update Guys, ALL SORTED, guy came today to take a look, popped bonnet, pumped lift pump 3-4 times turned the key & away she went!!:p:p could'nt belive it, lesson learned make sure 100% no air in system, feel a right plonker now, but hey all sorted & away.
BIG thankyou guys for all your input.

Blead system couple of times by lift pump in the past.
Next morning back to square one, lumpy tickover:doh::doh::doh:
Guy came round again last night had another look, cracked injector pipes 1x1 while on tickover & when no4 cracked open it ran smooth, tightened up ran lumpy!! checked wiring to no4 & found that someone had made connection with spade crimps & wires pulled stright out!! Remade connection which was a right pig as it was tight on the loom & away she want running sweet as:p:p:p.
Don't feel quite so much of a plonker now & nice to have a result that did'nt cost the earth.

mine started to do this normaly when around 3/4 tank. Turns out that something had got into the tank and every now and then would block the fuel pick up feed. Really stupid fault, did all the things you did.
