Hi I have a problem to share, I have a V reg TD5 Automatic which looses power along with dark smoke. It has happened a few times, every time I was driving down a long gradient on the motorway without the need for the acelerator. On aceleration there was no response and there was dark smoke from the exhaust, on pulling over the tickover was normal, no malfunction lights were showing. Switch off engine and then after one or two minutes I start up and drive on as if no problem has happened. I have had diagnostics done but nothing showed. Please help, not got much hair left to pull out, Alf.

Hi Alf, the first thing I would be checking is the rubber hoses that go between the turbo and the intercooler and the inlet manifold.

Take them off, check for splits and internal delamination. What can happen is that the inside layer delaminates and creates a sort of 'flap' that semi-blocks the pipe, so you get a loss of power and overfuelling causing black smoke.

They need to be examined off the car and very carefully.

Thanks for the info, the hose had collapsed, replaced it and all is fine now, thanks again.
