Hi,

My '94 Disco has an annoying habit of flashing the side lights (dimly) while my right indicator is on, and when I turn on my sidelights my right indocator comes on solid.

I'm assuming there's a bad earth or worn shielding (cross) somewhere, but has anyone come across this before or can suggest specifically where I should start looking? Don't really want to start pulling long leads . . .

Cheers in advance :D

Reuben

You need to clean up the earth points behind the headlights on the side inner wings.
Also clean up the main body earth located behind the battery
( bolted to the top of the inner wing)
Also clean up the conections in the socket if you have a towbar.

I think nicedayforit has hit the nail on the head, i had all sorts of problems with my lighting until i sorted out the earth behind the battery. I had already cleaned the other end of the earth lead before noticing that the one connected on the inner wing was lose in it's clamp.
Also the other day after welding the N/S inner wing i had forgotten to reconnect the two small earth wires back onto it and the N/S headlight only shone at about half it's normal brightness.

Also check the connectors on the back of the headlights.....these can often be found melted & making a poor connection...causing all sorts of lighting/indicator issues....

For a few quid, replace the 3-way connector...& probably the bulbs at the same time.

For a small additional outlay, there is, in the FAQ section, a writeup on how to fit a couple of relays in the circuit, which improves the system and removes the load in the lighting stalks, which are prone to arcing and burning out.

Greetings, cleaned the earth today and replaced the one to the body, lights and indicators are now working perfect, thanks for the advice it is appreciated just 1 more question why is there side light bulbs in the indicators???????????????

No, probably didn't explain myself. When you take out the indicator lens there are 2 bulbs 1 is the indicator and then there is another 1 that looks like a side light bulb. Why would you put a side light in the indicator???

All working perfectly now - thanks.

And people complain about the lack of help here
