The Disco's been running a bit rough, more cranking to start and juddering , sometimes cutting out at junctions . Think it might be lift pump, its auto and cant get lever on old pump to do anything. Tried blip ignition to turn engine still nothing. When I fit new pump ,the lever on the pump that fits into the engine has to fit a certain way, just not sure about that bit and dont want to balls it up.

Rejoice ! I fitted the pump and its like a different car ! Go's like a bomb[for a two ton brick :D] When you put the pump on they dont sit flush to the block until you tighten the bolts and that pulls it back tight. So far so good :)

I recently changed the lift pump on my 300 and when we first put it on it seemed like the lever was having no effect, we thought it was a dud pump, but we took it off and it was fine so we re fitted it and its working ok now.

i went for a britpart pump as it was cheap was that a good move?

Probably not, but I used the ****part lift pump on me 90, and had problems getting it to bleed.
So I used some of them extra bits you get and added a fuel priming bulb and use that to pump the fuel through.
Saves a lot of fekking about and makes bleeding a million times easier!:D I got a pic somewhere

Top left you will see the fuel filter and the priming bulb that goes off to the ****typart lift pump:D

we did have problems bleeding the system, we were pumping it for ages with the nut up top undone and nothing then it started making noises and we were good.
I might upgrade the pump to a delphi or something at a later date but for now the britpart is working and not leaking like the previous one so i'm happy.

I seem to remember that the old peugot XUD diesel engines used a fuel filter and lift pump combined,in two variants. One,the better one,had a long stroke plunger, the second, slower, one a push button/diaphragm thing. It was also on the 2.3 pug drizzel lump in the early sierra now I come to think of it,maybe on the 504 pickup, too.
I have often wondered why these are not retro-fitted to make manual pumping easier. In fact, when I actually manage to find one of the filter heads that I saved all those years ago,I may try it.Obviously it will have no effect to the running pump driven by the cam,but it may be better and quicker than all the scratches, grazes and sore back of manually operating the fitted one for priming.

Had a similar problem on my last defender that was converted to auto in the end tundout it was a block injector pipe strange lol
