To lift..or not to lift?

Morning gang,
In process of having me disco rebuilt with the point of using her for overland travel. Do I lift the suspension or not? Not planning on any serious off roading, but destinations I would like to visit in next few years are Alps, some Eastern Bloc countries (going to Latvia later this year if anyone wants to come? ), and if the middle east stops knocking the stuffing out of each other, would like to drive to Petra in Jordan.
So, advice please on lift or not?, wot suspension makes have you all tried (and were happy with?), poly bush or not?...you get the idea :)
Muchos thanks, Tony

sounds like a lift in this instance wont gain you anything unless your fitting larger tyres

the only thing you will gain is a more uncomfortable ride

That was a concern of mine, affecting the ride quality. I plan on doing some lengthy mileage and she is a comfortable old girl as she is...but obviously will be carrying a lot of kit. Tyre size 245/75
Is it worth replacing spring type just for the trips when she is laden? I dont plan on fitting a winch btw
Tony

i would say genuine bushes last the longest, but poly are easy to change once on poly,as above lifting unless necessary is only going to spoil ride and put extra strain on vehicle transmission and suspension, during rebuild use genuine brgs or oe like timken some things like brake discs ive used pattern as sucessfully as genuine for years
