land rover prob
right -- my mrs went to start her 300tdi yesterday morning and the thing was dead
frown.gif
.

it unlocked , all dash lights worked , but it would not immobalise just dead .

anyway locked it with remote button and unlocked it and the alarm starts going off , it seems like it thinks its being broken into
confused.gif
.

the RAC came out but could not fix it , but did get it going by fiddling with the key in the door lock turning it several times in a certain special way
rolleyes.gif
( so he told my wife , i was out beating all day
biggrin.gif
so dont know the full story ) to recode it in some way i think .

Anyway he left but said not to lock it with either the fob or the key or it would immobalise again , but did not say whats was actually wrong with it .

any one here know what the problem is ???
thanks

please help:)

phone our usuall mechanic and he has,nt a clue whats wrong with it says i need L/R:(

the thing is shes starting ok , but can not be locked up , if the car is locked via the key or the fob , it goes into a immobilsed state , it wont start , not even turn over just dead .

then we have to call out the RAC chap again to fiddle with the drivers door lock using the key to get it working again ( sort of coding back in ) but then of course it still cant be locked up at all.

surely our disco is not the only one to ever have this problem ......is it:confused:

i think therein lies your problem - I assume he is using the EKA code?

This happened to mine last week, I removed the + battery lead for 30 seconds, refitted it and I've not had any problems since.

do you mean the door lock or the RAC :D

its weird , this happened on the first morning of heavy snow , and wondered if there was any connection ie damp etc.

the RAC have been out twice now and got us home but cannot explain the problem. the chap just tried it after looking in the owners handbook and it got started but dont explain WHY?

ps. what is the EKA code - thanks

Dewin - please tell me what happend / what symptoms

thanks

Unlocked car via fob, alarm went off, so close car back up re-lock it so that it'll reset itself... re-open car and alarm still going off. Repeated this but only used the key, alarm still going off when unlocked!

Once alarm stopped I tried to turn her over and the immobiliser was still active.

So remembering a tip I'd had off a neighbour I removed the + battery lead, re-fitted it, closed up car inc. bonnet, locked the Disco up and she's been fine since.

Personally I think my fob is on it's way out, so I'm now just locking/unlocking via the key.

if you read the immobiliser section of the handbook it will explain what the rac guy did..overriding the immoiliser by entering a combination via the drivers door lock..theres also a bit about resyncing the key fob... think its something like pressing the lock button x times repeatedly....

Wot rcc said ^^

afaik locking with the key will not immobilise the car again just activates alarm switches on doors and bonnet.
Did the RAC give your misses the code? Be handy to keep of you don't still have the paper card in your log book ;)

thanks for replys guys

no no code given , just turning of the door lock with the key got it out of immobilised stated . but now cant lock it or used fob because doing either resets it to immobilised

i,ll have another read of the owners and haynes book , maybe try the battery off / on , but worried it will immobilise it again

someone explain what the EKA code ( as mentioned above ) is and what it does

thanks

i still have this this problem is my disco td5 if your press the unlock button while in the just before u turn your keyy does it work? mine does ...

Emergency Key Acces code. It overrides the immobiliser

1. First, key in the lock
2. Turn the key 4 times to the lock postition to reset the system.
then, turn the key to unlock as many times as your first digit of the EKA code is, so if the first digit was "5", you'd turn the key 5 times to the unlock position
3. Next, turn the key back to the lock position as many times as the second digit
4. again, back to unlock as many times as the 3rd digit
5. back to lock as many times as the 4th digit
6. that's the code input. now turn it once to unlock, and you should be done!

i,ve still not got round to sorting mine out , i just have to leave it unlocked all the time now

tried the EKA code which got it running but still got the lock/unlock and immobiliser prob , if i use either the key or fob it just goes back to the immobiliser state .

anyone got any more tips , could it be something else
