Hi all, just broke the rear fixed window on my 1999 disco 2 td5, that/s the window on the drivers side rear. Can any one tell me if i can refit myself or is it a professional job as people are telling me that this is special seal not like the disco 1 which had a conventional type seal. If any one has done one of these it would be appreciated any advice where to obtain from and how to do it. Regards Mark

No specialist tool but the Haynes manual says

"The glass is secured by the tight fit of a weatherstrip in the body aparture and are bonded into position with a special adhesive. The removal and refitting of these areas of fixed glass are difficult, messy and time consuming which is considered beyond the scope of the home mechanic... Furthermore refitting carries a high risk of breakage."

But then the Haynes manual says replacing the rear air bags is beyond the scope of the home mechanic and thats a straight forward job! I've not done the job myself so cant advise but I'd cost the glass and cost it fitted and see if its worth the effort. I suspect its not as difficult a job as Haynes suggests though.

Hope this helps

its a bonded glass use

but its a messy messy job and you will need to make spacers to hold the glass in place while it sets up ..in other words you may want to get a professional

You should be able to do it yourself. I used a few ratchet straps and blocks of wood rolled in carpet to hold the glass in when I did my van.

Just make sure you put a bead of glue all the way around or you'll get leaks!!
