Key won't budge

Put the ignition key in, nothing will not budge, working great earlier today, any ideas anyone?

worn key or barrel. spray wd40 and wiggle it out.

Had possibly the same problem last week.I couldn't turn the key in ignition.Land rover dealer wanted 280 euro for a new ignition and said that was the only way it could be repaired and I wouldn't be able to use original key.
I saw a good post here with advice on removing barrel and it was very bang on.Took it apart and had a decent locksmith repair it for 50 euro.

steering lock? did u try wigglin the steering wheel?

waited for four months for a replacement barrell had to pay £230
then they told me i would have to wait for another 2 months as they had issues with the supplier
a firm as big as landrover
i told them i wasnt happy and had my money back
took the lock down to a good locksmith and in 30 mins he phoned back to say it was repaired for £15
i was very happy with this and would recommend everyone to do this

Don't use WD40.......powdered graphite is the thing that should be used to lube a lock barrel. Most lock smiths use it. Sorted out several troublesome ignition barrels and door locks with the stuff.

Have you tried moving the steering wheel off the steering lock?

I had this exact problem this morning too! How wierd is that!!

I think it may be moisture in the barrel thats frozen cus of all this cold weather. wd40 will disperse the moisture and clean it somewhat. Remember though, wd40 is a degreaser so once it runs out, it will seize up again.

3 in 1 oil, or powdered graphite would be great

I have used Mr Sheen silicone spray polish into locks with very good results, and no problems later.

Let me google that for you

Had this problem last year. Someone posted a link to a great guide to removing the barrel and stripping it down. Over the years muck gets in there and cloggs the levers. .WD40 attracts muck and will eventually will clogg it up again.

After carefully removing the levers and springs and keeping them in order, use some fine wet and dry on each side to really clean and polish the lever faces. Once reassembled this allows the levers to operate freely again and prevents the jamming you describe.

happend to us last night missus was going to collect our hamper from a friends but when she got in the car put the key in the ignition and nothing barrel stuck in the steering lock possision just collected her from work a couple of hours ago and everything seamed ok , anyway needed to fit some new glow plugs today so had another go with the key still the same then tried it again but stood outside the car rather than sat in the drivers seat gave the steering wheel/ignition key a more vigerus shaking and bingo it freed off sprayed it with WD40 afterwards something i will need to keep an eye on now.
