Key Help please.....

Ok so I've done loads of searching and found results but none of them seem to work.

So here goes....

'03 Discovery, TD5 XS with one '2 button Landrover key fob'.
Led on fob works but it won't control the locking/ unlocking of the motor.

Is it looking like taking it to dealer or independent or dont bother at all and just use the key like olden days.......:doh:

Please help...

It could be the receiver that's up above the rear head lining they have been known to go faulty, a LR garage will/should be able to test it otherwise it's a 'replace and see'.

Have you tried removing the fob battery then resynching it? should be instructions in your owners manual, look at replacing the fob battery part

Synchronization of a fob is a D1 function, it's not required on a D2, one of the 3,000 improvement that it has over the D1

As I understand it from the D2 owners in the forums.

Nevermind then... just thinking it was a cheaper place to start looking!

I have a nanocom and so if you are ever in the Bristol area I'm happy to hook it up and do the RF test / reprogram the BCU to the key again for you.

Managed to get the key fob checked for any output and it seems to be working fine.

Can you just get the key recoded with one of these nanocom meters?? or is there another way of doing it DIY style, or is it more likely to now be the receiver in the roof lining????

Plugging a diagnostics tool like testbook or nanocom etc into the car let's you test if the RF unit is working and let's you program keys to the car.

There is no way to add a key to the car without programming that I am aware of. Nanocom allows you to do it with the code printed inside the key. Testbook requires you to have the bar code that comes with a new key. Not sure about others like hawkeye etc.

If the key is programmed already (which you would expect it to be in your case) then it should not need doing again if for instance it was the RF unit at fault and you replaced it.

sounds like it could be the rf unit then?? can this be checked out by anyone other than landy dealer

May it of been fried by jumping the motor with a jump box??

I can't see it being damaged by a jump to be honest. The only way I am aware of testing is to connect diagnostic equipment upto the car.
