few questions about tyrss...

on the disco at mo are 235 70 16 x5 on the dark grey star shap alloys

ive just paid £180 for a set of slighly different silver 5 spoke alloys with a slight dog leg to them if thats the right word x4 , with ...

205 80 16 tyres x8

theres 2 virtualy brand new mitchellins must be about 9ml tred-lovely tyres

2 x nankang conquoror wide , with about 4 or 5ml on them,ok condition

2x falkens with 5 or 6ml

and a matador and an avon with about 7mil

gave them a good clean up today and came up lovely, and pleased with the deal i got, concidering the 2 mitchellins would of cost more than 180 to buy

so now have 2 sets of wheels and 3 sets of tyres, but want to get the best 2 sets sorted

i have no idea .. can 205/80/16 and 235/70/16 be run on the disco at the same time in diffetrent set on front and rear ? if so what way round would you have them ?

also...whats the best way to match up the tyres tred wise ? just pick the similar type pattern ? as the mitchellins are a more knobbly type and the nankang are a flatter type ,il take some pics tomorrow

also ona disco is it best to have the best pair of tyres on front or rear ?

thanks for any help

So many queastions!

So many answers!

Golden Rule:

Put the best PAIR on the front, that is, two tyres of the same make, pattern and sizes.

Those are the tyres that do ALL of the steering, and about three-quarters of the braking.

As the Disco is full-time 4WD, it would be a good idea to fit tyres to the rear that had the same or nearly the same diameter or rolling radius. If they are different sizes front to rerr, the centre diff will be working more.

If it was mine, Michelins on the back axle, and the best pair on the front.

ok thanks mate...slightly confused as you said put the best pair on front ? then say put the mitchelin on the back ? which are the best pair

so ic ant mis the 205 with the 235 ? as the 235 set that are on at monent, a couple will need replacing soon but have a cple of good ones on there

mates free on tuesday to fit and balence the spares up...so im thinking get the best set of 205`s on the spare wheels ready to go, and the spare set as back ups, and put them on in the spring say, my tyres at mo will be fine for a bit

if you have 2 sets of 205/80 then fit a set of 4 and sell the good 235s.

Why would you want different width tyres on a 4x4, not exactly a sports car is it?

Sure, the best pair for steering and braking

so i can't mix the 205 with the 235 ?#

NO.
Best plan is not to mix sizes even end for end and NEVER on the same axle

Like the man said --- and flog the different ones.

I reckon you got a good buy.

cheers lads

reason i asked...was on the 235 set (theres 5 wheels) there are 2 really good ones, 3 ok ones that dont heave a great deal of tred left, just wondered if it was feesable or not to use them 2 decent ones with 2 of the 205 ones ? if not il just put the 2 sets of 205s on the 2 sets of wheels and keep the 235 tyres in the garage , n just lookout for a bargain on some 235 tyres to makea good set n keep for when a set of the 205s are done

what is the better size to have on there ? and what difference between the 2 sizes ?

FFS are you struggling to read or are you hoping someone is going to come on and say its fine????

They both run a similar diameter, only difference is the tread width so could possibly be used together depending on diameter as most manufacturers differ too but they will look fookin daft (not you MHM ;)) imo. I have 265/75 on my 110 at the mo but my 2nd spare is a 7.5r16 that could be used to get me home if needed.

very little difference on the road, have ran 205, 235 and 265 (all sets of 4) on my old disco. you will find a bigger difference in the type of tyre you are using ie. road, AT, MT.

If you dont like the 205s then sell them and use the money to buy some replacement 235s
