Jacking body away from chassis

If you space the body 1 inch it makes a big difference with out suspension mods.
Then you have also got the option of suspension mods later.

Nobody has actually answered the guys question!

Maybe he's already lifted 3" but but he wants to fit 35" boggers?!

In my opinion OP the strongest place to jack the body is the sills, providing they are not rotten. If they are they the outer edge of the floor pan is quite thick, at the front and back edges where it meets the body mounts.

Otherwise you could carefully jack it under the headlamp boxes.

But it is definitely recommended to bodylift one side at a time, jacking usually from the sills.

Cheers.

Thanks for that.

I'm not trying to fit a body lift. What I'm trying to achieve is a replacement of the exhaust downpipe which has unfortunately just started leaking at the flexi joint. Have been led to believe this job can be made easier by creating some more clearance - I've already dropped the front anti-roll bar down but there is a large cross member in the chassis just behind it which looks like it could cause a problem.

Cheers all, Ben.

I do believe that the sill are fitted to the sides not the front, maybe i'm wrong?

If you wanted to lift the front of the body, the best place to jack would be the front of the sills. IF the OP was wanting to bodylift the best place is the sills.

However, Ben, lifting the body will not give any more clearance for your exhaust. The engine is mounted to the chassis aswell, so any lifting of the body will not affect the relation between engine, exhaust and crossmemeber!

Cheers

Thanks mate. I've already unbolted the anti roll bar and exhaust mounting for the downpipe so it looks like I will just need to man handle it out!

Cheers, Ben

To get the downpipe out easier, you can drop the FRONT AXLE relative to the CHASSIS. Jack up on the front axle, then place axle stands between the ground and chassis, and then let the front axle drop. If you need more clearance, then a bottle jack in the obvious place would create a little more.

When i fitted my de-cat pipe, i got block of wood inbetween the jack and chassis rail, and jack it up to the point where the wheel was just about to lift off the ground. That gave me enough room to get the old pipe and cat off fit the de-cat back in. Don't try and rush it thou, you would be surprised as to how many time the down pipe flange can get stuck on the engine lol
