I've just ordered 35" tyres. Do I need to change my gearing?

Two interesting replies.

I'm guessing the first is an unsuccessful attempt at a pun on the word "chipped". If it is not a pun then I have absolutely no idea of what you are rambling about.

The second response suggests I've not checked the fit of the tyres first. My Disco has a four inch lift and 75mm extended arches giving the tyres a massive arch to sit in.

Mind reading isn't my speciality-how the **** was I to know it isn't standard ?

ESP!

^^^^^^^ agreed, if you dont like it there's always LRO

OP a couple of guys i go laning with run 33" tyres on their discos, both lifted and a lot of panel cutting but still manage to catch/rub. one runs a defender transfer and the other a disco box but will be swapping soon, recons the gearing on the disco box is too high for laning.

I hope you have wheels with plenty of offset, you may even require spacers but dont forget piccys when theyre fitted. :)

It's taken a while to dig out the pictures but here goes...

It works suprisingly well on the standard gearing but I guess the addition of a 2.8 TGV helped. :D:D

Hi Rob, that is one sweet-looking Disco. I would still say however that if you haven't already done, a change of transfer box will allow your auto-box to work better.

Because the gearchange in the autobox works on hydraulic pressures calculated on std gearing/wheels & tyres, it will be working harder, especially with the 2.8 unit you have.

For the cost of picking up a Def tranny box second-hand I would deffo be giving it a try. I would go for a Def 90 box.

Comparative ratios:

Discovery 1:1.2

Def 90 1:1.4

Def 110 1:1.6

What's come to mind seeing that picture is why bother lifting and cutting a Disco to fit 35" tyres, then fit A/T pattern?
