just wondered something...the interior light doesnt come on when the door is opened, and neither does the red ring around the ignition come on...but it did do, it seems a bit intermittent , just wondered what the likley problem/soloution is ? or if there is a way of turning that feature on off ? (but dbout there is) just incase

also on the windscreen wiper on/off control arm, there is a turney bit that goes right around, and has a few increasing settings..what is that for ?

and lastly...what sort of tyre pressure should be in the tyres? as i have no idea and thought i best check they are all ok

cheers fellas

1. Check the door contact switches are earthed just a single screw on each.
2. Is a way of turning that feature on off. NO
3. Variable wiper sweep delay.
4. For 235/70R16 tyres the owners handbook states front 26psi rear 34psi.

cheers fellas, this is only my 3rd ever motor so didnt have a clue about the wiper time thing, checked it all works as it should

with regards to the contact switches ...how do i check that exactly ? any other ideas if they are ok ?

Interior light's I believe are on the same circuit as the tow bar plug ... if that is water logged then it could be blowing your fuse.

As for tyres I run 235/70/16 AT's at 30PSI front & 33PSI rear, mostly because below 30 the front feels vague.

thanks mate, cant be a fuse as the interior lights do work via the switches, just not when opening the door

it was working, and the red ring around the ignition was comming on also when the door opened..but its stopped ? so must something in the door pin/where the signal tells the interior light the doors opened ?

There's nothing in the door pin, that only signals the multi-function unit via an earth connection to switch on the lights, of course that connection link could be missing, but look for the simple things first.

Had the same issue regarding the lights and it turned out to be poor earth, mine was somewhere under the glovebox. I did not sort it myself but got an indie to do it.

I always adjust my tyre pressures depending on wear, i find that if run at standard, they wear on the outer edges fist - underinflated, so i just bump them up a bit, currently running 29F/38R on the disco.

I remember him debating about buying a rusty old D1 (17 or 19 pages) and assumed he didnt buy it. I stand corrected, my apologies ;)

 a bit of rust on the outer rear arch under the door-a common issue with these, doesnt make it old and rusty, a member of the zone here came and checked it over before i bought it, and checked all around and under, a good test drive, and confiemed it was nice and solid, rear boot floor is original and nice and solid and not rusty,no damp leak issues, arches been repaired to a decent standard,so i bought it,and been enjoying it ever since

My nearside front door did not operate the interior light-removed the switch(one screw)to find nothing attached to switch-could see wire loose in body channel with a torch-managed to grab it with foreceps, and remade connection-works now

Where abouts is the switch located where the earth came disconnected????? I have the same issue ! the interior lights work with all other doors , but not with the drivers side! Its not a major , but would like to sort it out!
Thanks

It's not the earth that became disconnected....
Open the drivers door and look on the panel between the hinges. You'll see a spring loaded pin sitcking out. This is the switch, it is operated by the door pressing it in when you close it. It is held in with one screw.

Hi, I have a 2000 v8 and also have a simlar prob with interior lights. they work on the switch but not on the door (any). My disco doesn't have the pressure pin things to put the lights on. I have checked the doors by setting alarm with one door at a time left open (the horn sounds to let you know a door isn't shut when you lock it) and all doors work ok. I also have the red light around the ignition on. Any one any ideas?
