This morning I decided to get the 1990 Landy Disco 200TDi 3 door ready for the snow!

I changed the sooty glow plugs for fresh Bosche ones, changed both front Shock Absorbers (they were the originals and leaking, causing it to dip and dive quite a bit, yes I know, Landy's do dip and dive, but not that much!) and changed front brake pads, and rear drum shoes.

So I'm now all set for a tough snowy winter! :D

Has anybody else been getting their Landy ready for winter ?

Oh and I also put a bucket of grit in the boot, not that I'll need it with those chunky Michelin off road boots on though! :)

Never seen a disco with drum brakes on the back.

thats what i was thinking, anyway i was supposed to of gone to paddocks today to get some bits and bobs and to give the disco a run but woke up this morning full of a cold and as stiff as a card board box so will have to go next week now :(

the bucket of grit sound good, but if its rock salt i wouldnt take it within 10 feet of my disco, for fear of it crumbling away as soon as it got a sniff of the bad stuff!

No, the snow came and went, however it is coming back tomorrow or the next day. As far as I know the early Disco's had drum rear brakes. That or it has been converted to drums for some reason.

However I'm a bit ****ed off because I went out to start the old girl up earlier and within 5 seconds of starting I heard a loud "BANG!", checked under the bonnet and the alternator belt snapped!

Luckily I had a genuine Land Rover belt in my garage so I fitted that, and she now runs again!

definitely no drums on a disco

are you sure they are not the mud shields you are looking at? the disco has huge rear mud shields, until they rust away.

either that or some rum bugger has swapped your axle off his 90 overnight ;)

my mate's 2.5 ton 60 plate hilux has rear drums, my girlfriends 1 ton 57 plate 500 has rear drums... and so on.

great for handbrake turns in the fiat, but shoyt when theyre full of mud in the disco.

i dont know about you but i really aprreciate good braking in the disco when rock crawling.

cheers :)
