How do I replace the brake light bulbs on a disco 1? It's a 7 seater I think I saw somewhere that you have to remove the jump seats, is this true? I have tried to search for it but nothings coming up with what I search.

You can do it without removing the seats but it is very fiddly. Easier to remove the light unit retaining plastic nuts and withdraw the unit and then change the bulb. It is a long time since I have done this but you can also drop the top seat mounts to let the seat linkages out of the way.

mot tester did mine it was a pain in the arse, took him about 20 mins came out easy enough but was a pain to get back in..take it to halfords do they not fit your bulbs if you buy them there...

on mine I just remove the panel inside the back and change the bulb but I don't have dickie seats, do they really get in the way that much? and what age is your disco?

easy

put seats about half way down enough to get your hand/arms round it
undo the screw that holds the plastic cover on and slide it out

reach round the seat and either

feel which bulb holder to remove, thats the difficult bit working out which one unsighted

or as already said

undo the retaining plastic nuts and slide the whole unit out

there are 2 retaining plates, held in with long plastic threaded nut affairs, bolt come from light unit with a u shaped strip of metal that holds light unit by pressing against the body work

undo those, take them out and light unit will come out be careful not to damage the foam gasket thing our water will get into car
WD 40 the light unit, electrics and threads before putting it back in in reverse order.

Only thing to be careful of is not to drop the second plastic nut or bar into bottom of the body work, as you will have to take first off to get it out through light unit hole

Fiddly but not impossible

That's the quickest way to do it
