Hi guys,

I'm taking my 1996 Disco TD300 apart (full body repair etc...) and I'm obviously struggling with removing certain bits. In many cases WD40 and a screwdriver do just fine but...

For example the plastic cover of the sill. It seems to me there are plastic rivets here and there holding the thing to the sill. Shall I just jerk the step towards me and hope it pops off? Or is there something I should know? I want to be able to replace the step after the job is done, so breaking it doesn't sound like a great idea.

Then another thing. The rear seats. They are fastened to the floor with a pair of shiny screws each. Those screws are held by nuts from beneath the floor. If I turn the screw, the nut will self-fasten. I either need a very long left arm to hold the nut or somebody else to hold it for me. As neither of these options are available to me (got standard length arms and no-one to help me) is there a trick I could use?

Thanks!

rivets have small pins in center they need punching through then rivet will pull out, rear seat nuts should be captive but depends on state of your floor

10mm head bolts held my rear seats were into captive nuts welded to floor...

they are under the front of the read seats holding down the tubes that the seat pivots over to fold forward...

Oh, cheers for the tips.

With regards to the seats, I've located the screws, but each time I try to undo one of them, the nut (underneath the floor) will turn with the screw and self-fasten. :( Need something to hold them nuts fixed so that they don't turn.

Yeah, I mean, it is funny how your nuts were welded to the floor because mine are loose!

The plastic sill covers normally fall off on there own, mine did :D as for the front seat mounting bolts none of mine were captive had to reach under with a spanner to hold them

if they spinning just cut/grind the heads off..

much easier and then use new ones when you re-fit them...

you sure the nuts are spinning... could just be thread on bolt that rusted and stopping them comin out... spun mine for ages and they didnt seem to be comin out... got hold of em with a pair of mole grips and pulled em out...
