I’m sure this is going to sound silly.

My disco 2 seems to have an allergic reaction whenever it rains.

Slightest bit of water and:

1) Indicators don't work. Flashes on dash but not on car.
2) Electric windows don't work.
3) Key fob deactivates alarm i.e. leaves door locked but turns alarm and immobiliser off.
4) Horn sounds if you press the key fob buttons have to unlock with key.
5) Window wipers work when turned on. but don’t come on if you use the wash jets.
6) Door lock button inside won’t work.
7) If the alarm is on and it rains really hard it will set it off.

Any thoughts please I’m getting desperate. Everything is fine when it’s dry. I have spent too much on this car already. The Body control ecu is new by the way it was replaced when I bought the car in November.

P.S it does leak through the windscreen if raining really heavily. But doesn’t start coming though till the car is moving.

Thanks

My guess is that it is leaking all the time, and it gets heavy enough to notice it when you're moving.

Sounds like your BCU is getting wet. And whomever replaced it didn't bother fixing the reason it needed to be replaced to begin with.

Open up the kick panel and take a look. If it's wet, you have an answer.

Thanks for the advise.

if it is the windscreen any tips on stopping the leak

gazdav is right.

As a stop gap measure, you may be able to pull the trim around it and load it up with some silicone sealant where its leaking (pull trim, dry everything, have someone run a hose on it while you sit inside and figure out where it's coming from, dry it again and seal the area).

But that's very temporary at best.

it could be difficult.

i think it must be leaking form the bottom of the screen. i only ever see a few drops roll down the inside form the top.

That would be odd, as the bottom of the screen doesn't sit in a channel where water can accumulate. I'd think it would be more likely to be on the side. Try pulling off the A-pillar trim and see if its wet back there. That's the direct path to drip down onto your electronics.

Anyone got any idea's how much a new BCU costs?

have been quoted £60 for second hand. just wondering which way to go

i have booked it in to have the codes read, and hopefully reset. but can't be done till wednesday.

is water damage permanent with these or will it dry out?

There is something i would check before any ECU replacement.

If you have an ingress in from the bottom of the screen , its more likely to be your bottom windscreen seal letting to much water through it. Now this isnt a massive problem except that your heaterbox intake sits flush below it, which can allow water to drip out the bottom of your heater box.

If it is leaking as ive described as opposed to the windscreen itsself leaking, then it wont get your ECU's wet that are up behind the dash (Slabs and BCU specifically), but it will allow your carpet to get wet.

If you remove the side kick panel in the passenger footwell , you will find that there is 3-4 block connectors there. You want to check if there is green corrosion inside them as these are the connectors to your ECU's, including all your CDL and Alarm related signal wires.

There is a couple of connectors in the same location on the drivers side, but im afraid i cant remember what exactly they are for.

Hope that helps some.

Unfortunately you'll need to get it paired to your ECU by someone with a Testbook if you go that way (thanks Land Rover - was it REALLY necessary to design it that way?). Depending on how much that will cost you, you may be better off to get a BCU and ECU pair out of a parts truck.

I have a nice loacl garage that don't seem to be messing me around. (beckington 4x4)

they said they can swap over if needed just have to wait till wedensday. i think they replaced the last one before i bought the car so fairly happy. just would rather not have the expense. (everytime it rains) LOL

Anyone got any tips for unlocking the passenger side door when the central locking is stuck on. this would a lot easier if i wasn't lying up side down with with my head in the footwell and legs in the air.

Thanks to every one who helped.

turns out water damaged fuse box not sending any signals to bcu. all fixed. now just to find the leak. sunroof drains look ok. lots of water in each corner above the a pillars tho.

again thanks for the help
