hi, i have a T reg discovery xs 3.9 v8.
it cut out on me the other night so managed to get it towed home, and on checking it over have found there was no spark at the king lead,

so rang the local 4x4 centre and they told me it's a common fault and to replace the ign module. so changed this an still nothing, next step was to try a new king lead on it, did but still no spark, so changed coil and still nothing!

since then ordered a new dizzy, (it's slightly different from the one removed. the ign module has moved from being remotely housed on the back of the coil bracket to being on the dizzy itself, with some new wiring leads enclosed in the kit. not sure if that makes a difference?) have fitted this but still no spark from the thing!!!

anyone got any further ideas on what it could be???
as it's driving me slowly mad
cheers

More than likely the cause is the immobiliser unit (spider), it lives on top of the heater box, These get quite hot during use and the solder joints on the circuit board crack causing a bad connection, take it out, take it apart and re-solder the joints, you'll see which ones are affected.

Its not often you need to replace the unit itself but in some cases, soldering wont fix it. The units are no longer available from lr and a superceeded immobilser kit will need to be fitted.

Try soldering it first, 9 times out of 10, this will fix it.

thanks for the speedy reply!

how easy is the unit to get to?
is it a rip half the dash out job or simply a cover or two to remove

cheers

it's not too bad a job, its the center of the dash you need to remove......
Radio, cupholder, clock, ashtray etc, you'll see the ecu on top of the heater box with an anti tamper metal bracket round it, bend the bracket so you can get in there and it's held on by 2 screws.

If your hands arent too big,you can do it by just removing the radio,I got so fed up with the centre dash removal bit after so many times I worked out how to do it without - its now a 15min job.

update,
got the bypass lead for the spiyder fitted it an it now runs!

wasn't as bad a job as i expected once i had worked out how to get the plastic trim off from underneath the radio! an only took just under an hour from start to finish.

thanks for everyones help
