'97 Disco 1 rear door not unlocking.

I know I can search.... But..... I am on an iPhone outside a hospital going on to visit my dad who has just had a brain tumour op.

The key nor the fob will unlock the back door and my two dogs are sat in there.

If anyone know a trick to get it open I would be grateful. Will check iPhone again when we come out.

Ta V much

Dont know if there's a trick, but on my old disco, sometimes the door wouldnt unlock..

i found out a few punchs on the handle and pushing the door in whilst trying to open worked all the time...

Pull the badge out of the rear lock casing (flat screw driver0, you'll see the door catch that is more than likely jammed. Give it a shove with a screw driver and the lock will hopefully release itself. Make sure you re-grease it later on.

Thats what I thought too... but not this time.

Back home now, removed dogs and dog guard.

Won't open from inside either.

The button seems to be actuating but not much pressure behind it, but the lock is most certainly not unlocking.

:(

If the button goes up/down but won unlock it sounds like the rod from the crank to the lock has come off maybe.

Whip the door car off and have a look-see

Do you mean whip the door off???

Or

The door cover???

I have tried the door cover - cant get it fully off but I can expose the lock mechanism - its quite complex - trouble is I am not sure what actuates what.

:(

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp - Sorry at the end of my tether for 101 reasons none of which are actually this door:eek:

Have you got a workshop manual? If not pm me your email addy and I'll send it over as it explains what to do to the lock.:)

Thanks fellas... :) Whats a door card?

OK so now I can confirm it's not the lock. or at least I don't think so.

I managed to sit in the back and peel back part of the interior of the door (I assume card?). I can see the mechanism, it appears to be intact. The door has released by reaching a finger into the recess and finding the upright bar that is moved by the door handle. If I apply pressure to it by pressing with my finger and pull the door release handle at the same time it will release :(

:(Still at it, any further suggestions gratefully received :(

I have the door card off - I have had all the linkages in apart but cant see anything missing or displaced.

While pulling the handle, if I put my hand inside toward the lock and push an 'armature' of some kind (I think related to the lock) then the door releases.

I really can't fathom this

I think you have a broken spring in the lock. Its a little circular one and can be got from eBay pretty cheaply.

Thanks Ben,

I would look at that but...

Having stripped various swivel pins and linkages off, I got to a point where the lock was loose and free but only within the frame of the door. The width of the lock mechanism appears to be too much to pass out through the door, so I cant seem to physically remove it - This is daft, the door cant have been welded around the lock - but come out, it will not.

:(

Which large crank do you think, Dave? - it all appears to be there........

This is sooooooooooooooooooo frustrating - not a simple piece of engineering is it.

Thanks, Dave.

Yup that's all. I am going to restrip it all later and see if I can get the main lock block out. I put it all back together last night a) to secure the car, and b) 'cus I'm afraid I will forget how to put it back together again.

What bloody kerfuffle! I blame the dog. I slammed the door the other day 'cus the dog got in after eating cat poo - the slightest suggestion of cat poo makes me sick...

does it open if you put the key in the lock? If so, prob the little spring inside the lock mechanism- see the sticky thread at the top of the page for details

And the lock does come out eventually - even I managed it ! I think you have to tilt it at an angle to get it out. And remember how you got it out - as I had a bugger of a job getting it back in !

Thanks :D

Sleeves rolled up...about to try again.

The door wont open with the key though :(
