help please

used my disco 1992, last week, it jerked to a holt with an awful noise. called rac got towed home, but people telling me different probs. cant get it to a garage to be looked at till after new year. but would like some idea .
no drive...when i let the clutch out it sounds like a bucket of metal bits shaking around..
rac said transmition box. other said gear box. when i turn the engine over i cant move it but blue smoke poors out... any ideas .it was running fine before and no probs with gears clutch etc.... thanks for any ideas

drop the oils out your gearbox and transfer box,if one of them has metal fragments in the oil you know weather its your gear or transferbox whats gone

have you tryed it in diff lock to see if its a diff or end drive train related?
or chock it well and get someone to see if one of the props spin, not in diff lock!
the spining one is taking the power so dictates its that axel you need to assess, my guess is a cv joint or half shaft gone and all the power going there.

most likley thing is gear box input shaft /layshaft lost teeth poor lubrication ,also check turbo for blue smoke you may have 2 faults

mine went bang and lost drive..... put difflock on to crawl the mile home..... when started up in gear without diff lock the prop front shaft is spinning , so something broke in front axle....

still no joy with the landy. cant even get anyone out to take a look at her . looks like getting her towed to a main garage . thanks for the ideas.... engine still kicking out blue smoke. other wise running fine. cant get any gears ( and no props ect spinning . ) so major headache at the moment ..but thanks for the help ...
