Hi all

Finally took the plunge and bought a 2005 Discovery SE which I'm loving - especially living up here in Scotland its been brilliant - love it!
I got it 9 months ago from a dealer in London and its been fine but in the last few weeks a fair few things have gone wrong. I don't want to book it into an official landrover garage where I know I'll get charged a massive amount but instead want to use my local garage where I know the guys well - even if they do bodge a few things they have been great over the years and affordable

Does anyone know if there have already been any threads on the following faults - if so I could print these out and take them to the garage to help them diagnose the faults!?

1) windscreen washer water jets on bonnet and tail have stopped working - plenty of water, pipes not blocked - they just dont work now - could I have burnt out the motor? (strangely enough every now and again when I try it the headlamp washers work!)

2) Cant get the boot to open at all now - I can hear the motor trying to release the door but it simply wont open - any tips? (have to go in via back seat now!)

3) Park brake sensor warning light is coming on every now and again but its working fine - could this simply be dirty sensors?

4) Dashboard tacho computer display - everything seems to work but I get exactly the same read out everytime i hit the 'MPG' readout setting - its stuck on 25.6 with average spead stuck on 33mph - everything else works - does this just need reset?

Do you think I should go to my authorised Landrover dealer and simply pay the bigger bills but they will be better equipped to fix these problems or as its 5 years old with 60k on the clock simply let my local garage have a go!

thanks all - very much appreciated!

often the rear door handle sticks

remove the land rover badge and check it is free to move

if so, press the dorr into the car (shoulder or arm) and then try.

washer jets could be pump or wiring. headlamp washers work when you wash screen and lights are on - this means switch is ok. probably pump or bad connection. check wiring and check for voltage at woring at pump.

park brake lamp could either be dodgy switch, take off handbrake gaitor and you should be able to see it, then check it. OR it could be your brake fluid level, goes low when sloshing around. check brake fluid is topped up to max, use dot4 fluid.

sorry not got a clue about the instrument trip computer - tbh chances are it needs a new pod - theyre cheaper than you think on ebay but you need the mileage coding in. budget 50-100 quid from an auto electrician.

cheers

as per Mr Noisy ref the back door handle sticking.Give it a good going with WD40 to get it to release. Then spray with liquid grease to keep it working.Cannot hel;p with the rest but someone will

hey

the boot you will find that the cable that releases the upper tail gate has snaped quite common what you have to do is climb in the boot pop the lower tailgate trim off at the top cut through the foam then with cutters peal back the plastic coating on the cable then your see wire around that cut through that wire and your see a little wire pull that and it will release the tailgate and your need a new latch

regarding washers could be the pump is its making abit of nosie
regarding the park brake it would have to be pluged in on a computer

cheers mike

Re washers - check fuse, on my D2 the windscreen and headlamp washers are on seperate fuses and if fluid is frozen the fuse takes the hit, not the motor...
