Hi - Help and advice needed , Ive tried searching for this, and cant see an answer for the problem i'm having.......
I have a 2002 V8 Disco, I can go out to it open the door with the fob, start her up no problem, turn her off "dink" the car closed go back in the house, come back out maybe 10 or so mins later, and the car is dead!!!

No power from the battery everything is dead, this has happend twice now, the second time I had to disconnect the battery (both terminals) leave it 20 mins re-attach and the car starts up no problem...

So the question is, what would cause this and how do it get it fixed so I dont get caught short somewhere.....I'm new to Discoveries and to this forum, so please be gentle with me, but all help and advise would be greatly appreciated

Chris

Chris when you say you lock the car with the plipper?? and come back 10 mins later and the battery is dead....

That would suggest to me you cannot un lock the car with the plipper??

Or do you mean you have to unlock with the key

cos if so it sounds like yr not turning off the immobilizer

Ah yh I see now that was October

Have you checked all the battery conections ?

As Brom def says, start with the easiest things first like the battery connections, remove them, clean them and the battery terminals to make sure you have proper contact then check the earth terminal coming off the battery to the chassis, these can get crapped up quite easily if you like playing in mud, I removed mine from the chassis and attached it to the engine for easy cleaning.

Try this first and see what happens, sometimes it's the simplest things that cause the most probs.

Hi Folks

first answer, when I lock the car with the fob(Dinker), all the usual lights come on and you can hear all the doors lock, when I come back to the car 10 or so min later everything is dead, I then have to "Manually" open the door with the key, all the other doors are locked, the first time this happened I bought a brand new battery, went to take the plate that holds the battery in place all hell broke loose the alarm etc went on, and with that the power came on....very strange - I've tightened up all the connections and sprayed with WD40(dont know if that was a good thing), the second time had to remove all the connection leave for 20 and put back on, again all the power comes back on!!!

could just be one of the battery leads is fecked then, are there any splits/corrosion on either of them?

Hi Mate

No to be honest, the whole engine bay looks quite clean considering, the battery leads are not frayed etc, well greased up as you would expect, its just a mystery, would plugging it in to a Diagnostic machine help, I have to do this because of the three amigo's that have recently made an apperance, as well as a wobble that ****s the life out of me!!

sounds like you've got more probs than just a dodgy connection then, do a search for 3 amigos they've been discussed to death.

I was just hoping for your sakes it might have been something nice and simple, still might be worth cleaning contacts with a bit of wire wool just to make sure.
Don't know owt about diagnostic machines bit too much lecktrickery for me.

This is the clue.
Because you used the key you hadn't turned the alarm or the imobilizer off. However....

So what your saying is the electrics appear dead but the battery is still holding it's charge ? So diconecting and reconnecting it not only gets the power back but turns the alarm and imobilizer off ??

basically yes, once ive reconnected the battery, everything works, the car starts first time, the alarm/immobiliser (??) works, for some reason, I can go back to the car after locking it with the fob and its like the battery has been totally drained of power

This happens every time you lock the car??
How long have you had the car?
How long has this been happening?

I'm not a Disco expert but I understand the alarm causes a variety of inconveniences. Do a search for alarm spider and/or spider bypass.

Thats for a D1, he has a D2

Is it a D1 or D2 ?

Cos I'm inclined to think Kev's right or at least on the right lines.

Hi Ive had the car since october, and it only started happening since last Thursday and then again yesterday, apart fom that its been ok, apart from the other problems, but I know what they are

I have a 2002 V8 Disco,
;)

Missed that :D :D

Is the Alarm different then in the D2 V8? Cos as far as my limited knowledge goes the early D2 alarms had problems and were subject to a recall.

Wondering if this un missed the recall and been bodged ???
