hi there not been in the discovery much as wife has claimed it for the snow but today i took it and noticed that when i started it up the heated screens come on so was having to switch them off every time. also rear wiper also coming on just after start up this dosent seem right to me does anyone know if there related problems certainly never happend when i drove it before the bad weather
thnks

This is the normal behaviour of a D2... comanded by sensors(the rear wiper i think works automaticly just when u are going backwords)....u can undo these settings from the BCU with the proper tester if it bothers u.

Just a "flavour" from the systems operation mode(D2's are complicated little bastids;)):

Reverse wiping
Reverse wiping operates the rear wiper motor when reverse gear is selected. The transmission must be in reversefor longer then 0.5 seconds before reversing wipe activates..........
In order to enable reversing wipe functions, the BCU utilises the reversing light switch located within the transmission to determine when reverse gear has been selected.

Heated screens
The heated screen time-outs and logical operations are controlled by the BCU.
On vehicles fitted with air conditioning, the heated front screen is also operated by the ATC ECU when DEF (defrost) is selected. In this case the ATC ECU provides the trigger signal to the BCU to turn the heated front screen circuit on or, if it is already on, to re-start the time out period.

The rear wiper only works automatically when reverse is selected AND the front wipers are on.

Are you pressing the winsdscreen "symbol" button on the aircon panel, if you are or do that puts both heated screens on as well.

:)ye this all sounds right explains everything not really driven it before in the bad weather not to sure on heater contrils as dont have an owners hand book but will download it on to my hard drive tomorrow as found it in web to save me asking silly questions again
thank for taking the timto reply cheers

So every time one passes from P through R to D with an auto selector the rear wiper switches on, very strange and possibly ending up with scratched glass.

No m8, i think that's why they introduced the delay(as shown above) > "The transmission must be in reverse for longer then 0.5 seconds before reversing wipe activates" and another restriction is that the front wipers must be on too...see Mr. Urban Panzer's post ;)

I do read the posts.. but missed the front wiper bit.
It takes me more than 1/2 a second to pass reverse but then this function doesn't apply to disco ones. :)
