Hi everyone

I have a 96 300tdi Disco fully modified for off roading with 265 75 16 INSA tyres.

I have 2 problems.

when doing between 55 and 65 on the motorway, the engine is getting very hot, and the temp warning light comes on. If I slow down, or stop, it obviously drops and the light goes out.

secondly, the turbo seems to be spinning fine and giving the right boost as I have a turbo guage, but i seem to have a small drop in power. Certainly to what it used to be like, more noticeable on the motorway.

I have cleaned both the radiator and intercooler (Brunel performace unit) with a hosepipe to moisten the crap that has built up and and finally a jetwash tol blast it through. I can now see daylight through each. Both seemed were packed with mud, more so at the bottom of each of the units, which make sens. Would packed mud in the intercooler affect the performance at all? I am hoping the mud in the rad is the reason for overheating, so I am less worried about that

Any other ideas on what the issues may be? Thanks very much, Scott

Would packed mud in the intercooler affect the performance at all?

Yes, but, not to a really noticeable level. Air won't cool as much as not as much movement for air around intercooler due to packed mud = slightly warmer air entering engine = slightly less performance.

But it REALLY is minimal. I run my 200tdi with no intercooler and that runs fine

from what you have described i would have said rad/intercooler blockage, don't forget 'boost' pressure is only ever anygood if it is cool you can have 30psi and it won't make good power if the air is hot! have you tried it since you have washed out the rad?

Thanks guys,

Its not a powerful jetwash, otherwise I wouldn't have used it. its just a bit better than the hose attachment and hasn't damaged the units in anyway, I made sure of that when I started doing it

I havent actually driven it anywhere yet, so I am hoping its all OK. I was merely trying to see what the general consensus was. As with all of these things, everyone has their own view, and sometimes they contradict each other. Some saying it wont make that much of a difference and some saying it will

Appreciate any feedback
Cheers
