Angry gearbox

Hello all

Have just joined your forum by recommendation I have a question.
My Land Rover Discovery 300 Series I can no longer select 1st, 3rd or 5th gear I have replaced the small plate that separates the springs at the base of the gear knob no improvement any ideas or suggestions? Much appreciated.

Mark

presume bias plate intact when you took it out? if not did you get inch square tag out or has it gone under gear lever hint hint as this can block gear changing. basicly tag breaks off and falls in you can normaly get it with slim fingers or pliers

Thanks Uncle Albert there was a piece of metal as you suggest I removed this and carrying on driving the car without any problems, but since have lost gears, now replaced plate and still no gears 1st, 3rd & 5th. Thanks for your help with this. Mark

It is difficult to diagnose problems that are as obtuse as this, however it looks like your gearlever is unable to go forwards, judging by the lack of first, third and fifth. Suggesting something is blocking selection. To investigate forther you need to remove the selector mechanism andlook inside the gearbox. You maynot have refitted it back properly.

Pics might help.

I agree with Mad, you can open up enough with the box inplace working on the inside of the car.

Could be the bias plate is not quite in position and this makes it harder to select.
