gear change noise

hi. when i change gear there is a clunky noise it changes gear fine just noisey.
any ideas? disco 300tdi

could easily be input gear mainshaft spline wear you can check by removing pto cover off rear of transfer box,as well as ujs ,diff brgs etc ,checking state of oil can help sometimes as to condition of unit

I'm sure there are many things to cause a clunky gear-change. My 'clunk' dissapeared when the badly worn UJs were replaced.

Is it clunky or gear-grindy

My 300 will willingly grind 2nd/3rd if changed too enthusiastically I just change slower.

also forgot to point out that my mechanical skills are very basic

Then my my old son you are fooked find a m8 that is good or you may find that 300's get expensive after a few garage bills

However check the prop shaft uj's first if they look dry grease them any play in the uj's can cause that how old is ur landy and what miles has it done

its a 95 model and has done 170k

Time to get the overalls on and the greasegun out

you could give a bit more info, but seeing as you already said your skills are basic, just take it to a garage as clearly you won't be checking whatever people tell you here to check

Is it manual or auto

Clunk as it go's into gear or on way out

Dose the car feel like it jumps as it dose

Is the noise from the front, middle, behind the driver or the rear

Dose it do it in all or just some gears

That is the kind of info we need bro to figure it out
