Hi everybody
I am sure someone one from this great site and community will know:)

I have just bought a 98 td5 gs manual from a relative and went to france to collect and drove it back 400miles no problems:).
I have been using it for a couple of days back home and today when i went to unlock it with the key as fob only works to lock it, only the drivers side door unlocked.
Any way i started it up fine, but it started beeping at me and a funny symbol has appeared in the mileometer and now no indictors and windows or hazards work ect.
I have driven it to work and had a look but cannot see any fuses ect blown.
Does any know what could be wrong or where i need to start looking also the car is dead locked so cannot open any other doors accept drivers:(
Have been looking through some old posts and i think it maybe bcu but really dont know any thing on the matter.
Ps i live in frome in somerset if there is anyone who could help?
Thanks in advance guys:D

Well i have now managed to solder the broken switch in the remote back on and its all working ok:)
And when i sit in the car with doors shut i can turn alarm led in dash on and off but thats about all.
Also the car didnt want to start when i turned key it was totally dead apart from dash light all lit up.
Anyway managed to get started by leaving it 5 mins then fired up straight away:)
But i am still not getting anything working like indicators, fual flap, hazards and even fog light switches to work plus all the other doors except drivers are dead locked so i cannot open them:mad:
So really need some help please:)

sounds like it could be a bad dashboard earth or a main fuse blown.

I did drive the car to work and back and it drives ok just no indicators so back to the old days of hand signals.
Hope your right its driving me mad and me partner doesnt like the mood i am in over it lol

The large blade fuses are usually in the engine bay fuse box.

From memory the earth is a multi plug wired to a bolt located in the drivers footwell and to the right hand side of the throttle pedal.

Ok thanks will have a look after tea :)
Would test book or hawkeye be able to tell me whats wrong as car is booked in on wednesday with lr independent to do bais plate and spring in gearbox so hopefully they might be able to tell me!!

Possibly. Depends what the actual problem is.

Where are you taking it? Landrovers uk? Joyces? J and G?

If you get no joy with your usual indy it may be worth trying Steve Hill on Flowers hill industrial estate, Brislington, Bristol.

I am going to take it to beckington motors as they have a good rep around here and they seem to know there stuff and they race landys as well.
They said they have all the right test equipment so fingers crossed will be mobil again soon.
Just glad i havent sold my trusty 300tdi yet as i was in two minds as too move up to a td5 i maybe just having a small glitch with it but in two years of the old one its never let me down and towed my caravan twice to spain last year no probs and went straight through mot in november so just glad i havent put it up for sale yet!!!!!

I didn't know they raced landys. I've never heard a bad word said about them though.:)

I'd keep both the td5 and the 300tdi.;):p

I will be interested to know how you get on with Beckington Motors and whether their charges are resonable as I also live in Frome.

Well car went in today to beckington motors near frome and they did my bias plate in the gearbox got rid of my 3 amigos and reprogramed my remote keys and now the disco is driving like a dream!!!
Must say what an excellent garage i am in no way linked to them but just thought i would tell you guys.
The service i recieved was excellent and they are really helpful explaining everything they did in easy to understand terms and they even adjusted my handbrake with out me even saying anything!
As for cost well very happy with what i paid.
They really know there way around a land rover.
I am now going to sell my 300tdi which i have had for two years as the time has come to let someone else enjoy it:)

So what was the electrical fault?

They said it was the body control unit was having a funny 5 mins as i had valeted the rear of the boot carpet they said the humidity in the car over night as the windows were steamed up had got in to it so just left it to dry out then they reprogramed the keys and said it was all working ok now so lesson learnt there!!!!!!
