Has anyone experienced removing a 300tdi fuel tank? basically the project i have just purchased has had someone drill the tank, so its off to the scrappy on Saturday to remove one so wondered what the knack is etc.

Just remove the sender from the top of the tank and remove the fill and other hoses and unbolt the carrier, don't pick a disco with a towbar as you will have to remove that also.

Thanks for that, wont have a chance to have a look at mine in the light before i head off early saturday morning.

Mine has a tow bar so will have to take that off before exchanging mine.

Shopping list is growing every longer as it seems the catch on the back door wont...erm catch.

I drilled mine too :) **** happens! Did it while doing back floor.

Took it out and filled with chemical metal, been fine ever since.

It's a bugger to get out, I've got tow bar too. Drop the rear roll bar from chassis, take sender out, release vent and filler pipes, unbolt and away it goes.

NOTE drain every drip of fuel you can as even with a little bit in, it's very heavy and awkward.

Dave your just down the road (i'm in Much Hadham) fancy giving me a hand lol

Found a bloke on ebay who has a tank removed and just needs to look at posting so should hopefully save some time, effort and swearing getting one off.

Blimey, that's local :)

I'm tied to home at moment as both daughter AND daughter in law are expecting our granddaughters any day soon :) we'll either have to dash to Bedford or cheshunt at short notice ;)

It's not an overly tough job, a trolley jack with a lump of wood on top helps, use it to lift the tank up nd take it's weight while you wiggle it about to get the bolts in.

The worst part was the fuel pipe joints, mine looked a bit crusty so I left it all connected and dropped the tank away from the sender, the wife guided it out of the tank hole, its not too bad but fiddly.

I've got a steering box to tackle, not looking forward to it.

I drive through the village every morning going to work, it's a nice place.
