I want to order a new fuel sender unit for my 94 300 tdi auto. Island 4x4 have them at a good price but there are two part numbers to choose. I know it sounds dumb but which part do I need esr 1223 or prc7129:confused:

I have done some research and as far as I can tell the difference is

esr 1223 - this sender has a plastic top - Tdi models from KA065557 onwards

prc 7129 - this sender has a metal top and is for earlier models - 200Tdi models upto KA065556

Have a look at your chassis number and compare it to what it says on Island 4x4.

Other than that I would say have a look at your old sender unit and see if the one in your vehichle has a metal or plastic top.

Hope this helps

John

Before ordering sender check electrical connectors on no4 injector, i say this as i had same problem as you, i changed filter, lift pump, stop solinoid & sender also cleaned sedimentor & it turned out to be dodggy connection on no4 injector sensor. Hope this helps.

Thanks for help , it must be esr 1223 vin no starts sal. Plastic top. Will check electrical connectors but mine is the early auto without the edc so might be a bit different to yours dave.

HI Danny, sender with plastic top, does'nt come with sealing ring or locking top.
Your existing one should be ok if not damaged. Big plastic ring on top will unscrew, if tight gently tap it round with hammer & screwdriver, do'nt forget union nuts & olives as these probably wo'nt come off old unit.

Well the new sender unit came this morning :) Tried to get some 10mm fuel pipe to bypass the sedimenter , tried euro parts and unipart. They said they do it but only in 1 metre lengths  I dont think a metre is enough to join sender unit and sedimenter. Whats the point in selling it at that length

All vins for disco one start sall, the letters in question are the last 2 before numbers.

You had me sweating for a minute  Just checked vin number starts MA :) got the right one. James, Do you mean I need to ask for 8mm fuel pipe ? Do they sell it in longer lengths ?

Still no luck with the fuel pipe.Last place I tried said they do 1 metre lengths When I asked if they did any longer they said yes , a seven metre roll ! I think Ill have to just bypass the sedimenter with some 10 mm soft copper and keep the existing pipe to the sender.

Ive just been trying to get the fuel pipes of the old sender but they are rusted on and I dont think Ill be able to reuse the old connectors on the fuel pipe flow and return. If I just cut them off can I buy new connectors and fit them to the old fuel pipes ?

Ok Ive got fixed up by my local indie.:)

Thank fook I think Ive sorted it ! Went to my local Landy indie today explained the problem and he says "oh no you dont want to bypass the sedimenter " and "I think it might be after your lift pump , maybe spill rails on injectors " Really confused I went back under the disco with a torch. With the rear wheel removed I could see the back of sedimenter and it was wet ! dried it off and watched it get wet again. Bastard sedimenter housing rotten! Went back down and bought 1.5 metres of fuel pipe of him , bypassed the sedimenter .......sorted ! :D
