fuel bleeding

plumb it all up as it should be change ya fuel filter blow ya lines out, clean out the sedimenter (if fitted) and crank it over it will start if your main pump is ok lift pump is mainly there for higher revs higher loads

200's and 300's self bleed so tow start or crank it over until it does :p

if it dont go back to the place you purchased the lift pump and ask for another

But first slacken right off or take off the fuel supply pipe at the injection pump - that's the fuel pipe furthest back, away from the drive end.

Now turn the engine over - yes or no, does fuel spurt out of the open end of the pipe?
If not, work backwards from there, and FIRST try to ensure the pipes on the lift pump are connected the right way round. Some replacement pumps have the INLET on the WRONG SIDE from the original. CHECK THAT FIRST, then work backwards towards the tank.

If you don't get anywhere, put a litre of fuel in a plastic bottle and connect it to the INLET side of the fuel pump. Now work the priming lever.

If the pipe in the bottle BUBBLES, it is connected to the OUTLET side of the pump. If it sucks fuel up (you will see the level go down) set about BLEEDING the FUEL FILTER and then right up to the pump, then slacken all the injector pipes at the injectors (half a turn is quite enough) and turn the engine on the starter. Fuel should spill at the loose injector nuts. Now tighten them up and start the engine.

There are two types of pump, and one of them won't pump unless fitted to some sort of adapter block. I am not well up on this but did have the problem some time ago with a 2.5NA that uses the same pump.

FIRST check the pump is pumping - take the feed pipe off at the filter head, that's the union at the filter on the pipe coming from the lift pump.
hand prime the pump or turn the engine on the starter. It must squirt fuel or the engine won't run.

hi have now been advised it could be the injector pump as even when this is full of diesel it will not pump anything out.anyone know what sort of job I'm letting my self in for?
Thanks Gavin

You said that you took the stop to bits, did you take out the plunger that stops the engine, I would coz if its fooked it wont pump fuel.

Only other thing is the pump aint turning, pulley is but pump aint, key gone?

The low pressure vane pump inside the fuel injection pump is prone to failure.

It is easy to get it.

WHERE is Gavin based?

WHO has been giving advice?

Don't do any of that unless and until you have PERSONALLY made sure YES or NO is the lift pump set up right way round, and is it pumping fuel.

You are probably going to get in a lot of trouble if you start taking an injection pump to bits.

yes the lift pump is pumping ok

On the INLET end of the injection pump there is a small mesh filter.

Find how to get to it and make sure it isn't choked.

Make SURE the stopper solenoid is working. If need be take it out, take off the bottom plunger, and put it back.

Can you bleed the pump properly?

Wonderful!

If you send me the old pump I will strip it down and clean it all up for you.
Then you could flog it to someone and get your money back.

What exact model of Landy was it? Remind me.

CharlesY
