Flashing milage

afternoon, on monday my alternator packed up whilst driving home and completely flattened evrything! so just picked it up from having the alternator done and the main milage is flashing? but there diagnostic machine isnt picking anything up!

aswell as that when i first drove it and put me foot down it kept jolting as if you were kangarooing in a manual but at 50 mph plus?

any help? cheers

The Kangarooing could possibly be the injectors, but it wouldnt present with that electrical fault....

the garage reckon it could be something to do with ecu learning the car again? as the battery completely went dead flat!

Hmmm.. I'm not sure the ECU has the cognitive ability to `learn' in the way suggested - it does as programmed. However, I've limited experience of them. Hopefully some other members can advise.

The garage are talking crap! I'm not sure what the problem is but it has nothing to do with the ECU "Learning"

im not sure what it is its only came on since the alternator went and everything completely lost i had to drive a further 5 miles once all the lights and dials didnt work and then there wernt enough juice in the battery to keep it going so i had to get recovered!

the kangerooing might be the injector harness, have a check at this thred towards the end and see if it sounds similar.

the mileage flashes when the mileage in the instrument pod is not the same as the mileage recored in the BECM.

the chances are that your BECM (body electrics control module) has forgotten the car's mileage when it went ultra flat, so now the pod flashes as its not the same as the BECM mileage.

you need to have this reste by an auto electrician, 50 quid upwards...?

My battery was disconnected for a couple of days recently, in fact I took the ECU off the car. Yet when the battery was put back on everything worked as it should. Similarly a flat battery shouldn't make any difference, I might of course be completely wrong!

yeah it kinda suprised me too, but i'm still betting on that sort of thing being the cause of the problem...

Mr Noisy is right,it needs to go on Testbook for an odometer update - so the BCU has the same stored value as the instrument pack.
The Joey jumping is probably overboost,a search will save me a load of typing - difficult with too much wine on board.

Try switching the ignition on and just leave it for 5 mins before you start the engine. The BCU needs to re-sync with the Instrument Cluster.
