hi all
this is my first ever post on here please excuse the spelling and grammer its not my strong points

i am hoping that i could get some help with my disco II as im completely confused to why it broke down

the fault happened at the end of a motorway slipway after coming back from slindon safari off road day it was a warm day and my radiator had a fair bit of mud in it i thought it had over heated

after getting a tow home from a dodgy transit van for £20 i found the pipe on top of the radiator had split and dropped alot of water

i topped her up and fixed the leak and went to start her but daisy now wont start and is flashing her auto transmission lights at me the manual says that its a electrical fault seek a specialist

i would take her to a repair place but as she wont move and shes too heavy for any of our other cars its dodgy to tow her

i was wondering if any one can point me in the right direction of how to fix her or any mobile specialists in the portsmouth area or anyone that fancys helping me out

thank you for reading

Hi Nick, I'm assuming that the lights in question are M& S lights on the dashboard.

These can be triggered by a number of things including:

1. Water incursion into the gear selector switch (XYZ switch) or coolant!!

2. Low main battery not supplying enough juice to the autobox ECU;

3. Faulty XYZ switch.

4. Gear selector not in P or N.

Did the engine turn over and start, or would it not play at all?

morning all its 0020 when im writing this strange time i know but i dnt sleep much (medical reasons)

yes its the m+s lights and ive charged the battery even tho its at 12V but still nout but worth a shot

ive had the gear selector xyz off but nt completely open seems to be fine no extra water or gunk all dry to look at

the gear selector shows its in p or n but when selecting the 123 gears it just flashes at me and says d on the heads up display in the dash if thats any help

as for the engine its a no runner just cranks over but no fire
we sprayed easy start into the intake and got a bit of life maybe suggesting a fuel problem

ive looked on line and people have suggested the crank timing sensor? i dont know where this is but could that be the no start problem and if so would that take the trasmission out at the same time

ive got a number of a mr finley a mobile specialist in hampshire but no reply from him yet does anyone know him or used him before

cheers nick

Hi Nick, that sounds like a faulty XYZ switch to me, but you need to get diagnostics on it to be sure.
