the discovery 200tdi engine will fit the r380 box but some of the bottom bellhousing bolts will need taping out (the holes are there just no threads) but as said the pluming is different and the rad intercoolers are different(but could be made to fit) i would say its a step forword as i think the 200 engine is better than the 300 engine (200 has more power lower down) but they are older engines so make sure its in good condition

You'd be better just selling the 200TDI engine to someone doing a series 2/3 engine conversion.

Decent 300TDI's can be picked up for less money than you will prob get for the 200TDI.

Was certainly the case when I was looking for a 200TDI to convert my Series 2 88".
Ended up going for a 300TDI in the end as over £200 cheaper.

the gear boxes lt77 and r380 are the same length alltogether,so asr380 has longer rear housing to hold 5th and reverse gears the r380 bell housing is shorter by same amount the amount of bolts that dont align makes no difference even with those missing it still has more to hold gear box to engine than does v8 or td5,as a general rule 300s fetch more than 200s as there are a lot about

There's more 300TDIs around than 200TDI's.

The shortage of good 200TDI's pushes up their price, and in my experience, disco's with good 200TDI's tend to be more than 300TDI's as the engine conversions in series 88"/109"'s are much easier to do with 200TDI's.

A 200TDI drops on existing Series 2/3 chassis mounts, wheras a 300 requires "inginuity".
