Went to take the kids to school this morning, started the old girl up and all was well for about 10s. Then we got a loud clunk, followed by taping, the engine cut out and locked up. Well myself and 300tdistu stripped down the top end, and found a possi drive screwdriver bit inbedded into the no.3 piston, but also has wrecked the head. Strange thing is last time i did any work on it was 4 months ago when i changed the head gasket. Could it really have been in there that long???????????. Secondly i'm not missing a bits out of my set.
So I'll get some pictures up(or stu will) and you the wise can take alook and see if this engine is fixable and cost friendly, or replace it with another. The car is a 94 300tdi, manual with 189,000 on the clock.
cheers guys and girls

Honestly i have no idea, as said before i never use the bits when working on the engine as i fear that the above will happen. Only thing i can think of is the person that was helping me at the time dropped it and said nowt, or did know that he had.

Interesting one! I dropped a plastic speedo drive into a mk2 Golf GTI gearbox once, thankfully it just got chewed up :D Also dropped an M6 nut into one of the oil channels in the block but luckily that had no effect either prior to selling the car ;)

Needless to say I was at the start of the DIY mechanics learning curve when I had that car.

I bought a mk2 golf gti once really dodgy guy, box pack up after a week, she sounded, and went like an m6 thou. lol. wouldn't mind but been on the spanners for 12yrs or so now. First time i've ever had this problem

Well yes lol. shes had a few parts bolted onto her. nearly 100% right, well until the next time. It was my first disco, and to be honest it wasn't the best around. Still stuck by her and got it nearly right until today.
