Hi all
A mate of mine has aske me if I had any idears so here i am
Anyone got any suggestions, please
Have done a search
Since xmas my disco td5 has been in and out of the garage with starting problems. my local land rover not a dealer have been really helpful so far, twice he has had the car for over a week and every morning it has started fine for him, but when i get it home and try and start it next morning the glow plug light goes out as it should , and when i try turn it over the lights flicker and the relays click madly, or this is the best bit, it will run fine for a week or 2 and then outta the blue do the same thing!! Arrggh
Work done so far:

new drivers door lock (as it was sticking and affected alram setting)
new BCU
3x new batterys(all differant brands)
additional earthing wiring
battery drop test, only pulling a few hundred milliamps
alternator is giving 14.4 volts running with which i am told suffciant current
interior light bulbs removed (getting desperate)
radio removed (getting really depsperate)
fuse board removed and 3x part cleaned (in case water had ingresed)
new injector loom 'cos oil was seeping towards ECU (common fault on td5's)
All fault codes cleared/reset
Rear air bags have been removed/replaced with springs and ECU swithced off (no lights on dash)

Can any one suggest anything i've not tried or got a mate in the trade?, or even wanna come and have a fiddle.

Oh forgot to say it will start with the booster pack no problem.

as i say this is a friend that has ask if i knew what it could be

If batt flat then suspect something like front heated screen at a guess-p38 suffer it and will appear random

poor battery is the cause ,ecu wont take voltage drop while starting even though they may spin over on starter ,check battery engine earths and main leads ,14 volts is charging but battery may not be good enough to hold full charge or discharge overnight which can be alternator remaining energised

Hi all Thought I would just update you
Checked starter a very bad earth my mechanic mate put his volt/amp meter thiny on and it was dropping by 1 every second, checked everything that had been suggested in the posts earlier so Thanks Guys
There was very bad earth at the starter solinoid so we cleand all parts arounda and put some grease stuff over it, checked with same meter still dropping.
So we have run a new earth from battery to starter, and a seperate one to gearbox for some reason my mate did say why but i've forgot.

Checked again still dropping didn't bother checking alternator as he checked that before he started and that was doing as should so two cups of coffee and a bit of headscrating.
We decided to take all the fuses out one by one. So we clamped meter to the appriate terminals started fuse box in engine bay first 3 fuses same took them out and still dropping, took the fuse out for towbar elctrics and no drop :D.
So round to the towbar we go found towbar could not find the towbar elctrical socket???. so looked under motor nothing, so Off came the Drivers side rear light cluster and what we saw, Previous owner had cut the wires to the t/bar electics kept the socket and had left the wires exposed so depending how my mate parked it was contributting to weather or not it was gonna start when he got back to it.... so we pulled all the cut wires from the scotch looks and wrapped some Insulating tape around it so it's sorted now.. Sorry for the long post:D:D:D
