Hi

ive got a 300tdi manual and im looking at blanking the egr valve ive just had a look at the engine and my egr valve isnt plugged in/connected (electronic plug).

im getting about 20-25mpg(if im lucky) at the moment. would this be a problem for the engine and would fitting a blanking plate make this better

does any one have a qlue as to why it was disconeccted, does it make the egr if disconnected run/work the same as if there was a blanking plate on it

thanks ben

Pretty sure they run normally closed as the solenoid needs to be energised for it to open  Therefore blanking it off wont make much difference, just look neater :)

Hi Ben if your 20-25mpg is accurate, then I would say that is heavy for a manual TDi 300. I had an auto TDi 300 and that averaged 33mpg over the 16,000mls I had it.

Is yours fully serviced, new oils and filters etc?

De-EGR will make a little improvement especially if you clean out the intercooler at the same time. Also considor a De-Cat mod if you haven't already done it.

Do you run with the viscous fan still attached? Assuming your cooling system is in good order you could decide to take it off and leave it in the boot, particularly through winter.

All of these measures will improve mpg, providing you're not "driving it like you stole it" :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

im going to change all the oils filters etc when i get the other bits like the egr blanking and some other things.

i do know that the fuel pressure switch has been turned up and would like to turn it down but im not to sure which way to turn it and by how much.

any other mods like the decat that can be done to improve mpg??

i drive like an old woman in it, if i want to go fast i use my bike lol

thanks ben

i think if its not plugged in i won't actuate the EGR valve if i remember it works on the throttle position sensor on yer injector pump (which you can also unplug/ remove) i did the EGR 40,000 miles ago and de catted and de center boxed it a while ago quicker to rev up and holds up hills better now

Ive got a 300 auto with de-cat ,egr blank viscous removed. Changed oil and filters 3k ago and my last fill up was only 20 mpg. I put it down to short journeys [under 5 miles] and this bloody cold weather. :(
