Hi, I have just fitted an egr blanking plate on my 2001 td5. can I just keep running the car as is, without replacing other bits as seen on several websites. I noticed that the instructions mention other pipework etc, can I just use the blanking plate without the need to renew/replace anything else and not do any harm to the engine.
Thanks Paul

Yes just keep running as is. All the blanking plate does is stop the gas passing through to the EGR system then back into the intake.

Thats great, just didnt want to do any harm to the engine. Is there any benefit then to fitting all the other bits I have seen?
Thanks Paul

Not really, BUT if your car has dome a big mileage you might want top clean out the inlet manifold and the inlet ports of the head as they will be all gunged up by the filthy crap that the EGR creates.

We should run a competition for the most appropriate three words for which EGR is an acronym.

Entries on a postcard to Slob ...

Only done 68k, everything looked pretty good, didnt get covered in any muck whatsoever...must be a good sign!

As regards the three word acronym,,,what about "Engine gunge...REMOVE"

Hi
Im probably going to make a fool of myself by suggesting pluging the tube that opens the vac supply to the EGR keeping it closed???
be gentle with me

Yes thats the BB approach, it doesn't always work, EGR valve have a tendancy off jamming in the open position etc... The best way by far is to remove the lot, plate it, and put a straight through pipe in from the intercooler to the manifold, it also makes for cleaner air travel.

I read a lot about these when i start the disco i get these symptoms (egr symptims) but im not sure if i need one is it for td5 only? eg mine is a 2.5 - 93 k reg tdi disco can i fit one to mine?

Thanks Wappy.

ps sorry for jumping on the thread.. i couldent see the point in making another egr post lol

Before I take my new Disco to bits, has a blanking plate already been fitted with the egr left in place?
