Dumb question..but can it be that difficult to find a decent 300tdi ?!

I have been searching for a 7 seater manual 300Tdi for about 2 months. I know I have a limited budget of ideally under £2K so it would have to be an early model but all I have come across is sheer rubbish.

Very few private sales out there so dealers are the only avenue and boy are they milking the bad weather !.. 95 300 Tdi's with 150k+ miles for £3k ..

I am based in Cheshire so maybe thats my problem.. I cant travel far due to transport problems but surely there must be some good guys out there willing to sell a 300Tdi at a fair price !!

I'm not sure whether 'mad hat man' is taking the mickey but not everyone in cheshire is a man utd footballer.. some are just ordinary hard working families like mine with not a lot of dosh..

thats a lot of dosh for a 96 one

anyone that pays more than £1500 for a disco must ether be mental or a realy good welder

I paid £200 for mine last year!!!

was the cheapest one with-in a 100 miles of mine, that wasnt falling to pieces. most sell for well over 3k

Thats what people keep telling me yet there are loads around the £2500-2995 mark on autotrader AND they are selling !

p.s. dont laugh BUT I would consider a 90 7 seater... under £2k I dont think so !

It took me 9 months to find the current Disco, found it locally on a 24 hour auction. Viewed it, made an offer (which he refused so I walked away) ... auction ended a few hundred more than my offer but buyer did not contact the owner within 24hrs ... got a phone call from seller offering it to me, I knew he needed cash badly so I even blagged 6 months tax for it before I'd buy it

if wheel arches are rusting you need to check sills ,rear crossmember especially around body mounts ,rear floor,front wheel arches and footwells,most disco rot in all areas at the same time unless you are really lucky,the only really good ones ive see recently have been jap imports,ive welded quite a few but finding something to weld to can be hard,i would looki for disco2 bodies much better protected but chassis rots faster than disco 1 ,

checked chassis and boot floor already, appears to be ok, sills were repaired for the mot yesterday. ill check everything else in the morning when ive got some light
