Drivers window replacement

Got home this evening to find this, I opened the door so don't worry it wasn't broken into but does anyone know how easy it is to replace the drivers window and can you give any useful tips. I can't go through the insurance because my insurance doesn't cover glass :-(

Ask scrappy if they got any in stock or eBay. It's a reasonably easy job to do so don't threat.

its simple, never done it, but from what I remember of my old disco, you just have to undo a few bolts to remove the frame over the window..

slide old window out, slide new one in and fit the frame back on again

cheers guys, i've found a seller on fleabay who's local and wants £15 so I'm collecting it on saturday.

I thought it might be fairly simple to do but rather than take the doorcard off and start scratching my head. I'll take a few pictures when I do it and post them in this thread in case anyone else ever needs to know.

For now I've just duct taped it together which will hopefully hold it in one piece until the weekend lol

first you have got to take the door card off and clean out all the glass.
there is a track that your glass would have been fixed to that needs to be unscrewed from the regulater. your second hand new bit of glass should come with it on ( if not you can line it up to correct possition, soap it up and bang it on, rubber mallet prefered)
put it into the frame front end down lower, pull it up square, slide the glass down onto the regulater and put screws back in.... i know this as this was my job for twenty odd years, i hope i have the correct door in mind though

It isn't different.

I had to replace the channel on one of mine, that is by far and away the hardest part of the job. The channel has a rubber insert which grips the glass, as said above you need lots of soap, a rubber mallet and patience. Put the glass on a rolled up blanket or something similar before you bash the channel on.

You will of course need to take the mirror off aswell.

Pictures show various bolts that need undoing and the window channel I had to replace.

Further point, if I remember correctly there is a spacer or something similar on the bolt on the lower inside rear of the door which you can lose into the depths if your not careful. (I think!!)

I emailed Jason a workshop manual earlier showing the relevant steps, lets's hope the window channel isn't too much of a hassle for him....

yeah thanks for the manual Dewin, many thanks to everyone else whose given me some pointers, hopefully the rain will stay away tomorrow and I can get it done, anyone wanna take bets on whether I break the new glass or not lol

If you haven't managed to start this yet, when you do, as you have duct taped the glass put more duct tape over the frame to hold the glass in place. It should then lift out with the frame saving you a lot of aggro with cleaning out bits of glass.

ah good point, I haven't started it yet because I spent yesterday changing the brakes on my mates car which was a pain in the backside.

only problem with this idea is the misses wants to smash it through so I've agreed on the condition that she vacuums the mess up, we all know I'll end up doing it but gotta keep her happy

done this yesterday but due to eagerness to get it done i didn't take any pictures however it was very easy to replace.

simply remove the door card
remove the drivers door mirror
remove the window trim on the inside
undo 3 10mm bolts holding the window motor in
undo 6 10mm bolts holding the window regulator in
undo 1 13mm bolt just under the drivers mirror on the inside of the door
undo one T40 torx screw from upper hinge side of the door
undo one 13mm bolt from the upper door opening side
undo 2 10mm bolts from inside the door at the bottom where the bottom of the window frame it
lift the whole window frame out, fit the new window then put everything back.

took about an hour in total but if anyone else has problems give give me a shout. thanks for the help and advise i got.
