I was driving on the motorway in the 1993 Disco I have had for a week and there was a loud bang followed by no power to the wheels. I managed to freewheel to the side of the road and have been towed home but there was nothing there in any gear for either gear box. Nothing.

Had it a week.

The guy from the breakdown company had a look underneath and said it was the drive shaft that had gone as far as he could tell.

Any idea how much this complete waste of money that I've managed to hate with a passion more than any car I have ever owned in my life (despite only having it a week. Don't get me wrong I think I like the model just not this actual car) is going to cost me?

put it in difflock and it drive ,which are we talking prop shaft front or back £60-£120,axle half shaft £10 used ,cv £35-£70

It doesn't drive no matter what I do with the 4 wheel drive/high/low etc.

I have no idea what bit is broken only that it is broken. The bloke pointed to something underneath the engine near the front axle that I didn't really see for myself.

Thanks for the prices. Is that just parts?

have you tried diff lock lever sideways toward passenger side, you could remove front prop and use it till you get another 9/16 spanner needed

wont hurt if you remove offending part i presume your front prop, with it removed it is rear wheel drive you can run like that forever if you want ,or till you get it fixed, with diff lock both axles have to do the same speed but with cornering they dont, so wind up occurs, with either prop removed your driving one axle so no wind up

Just look for a disco that been stripped for parts. I should think you would get a prop for cheap at worse you may have to change the uj's but that is. As said before remove front prop, difflock high and off you go.
