Up **** creek.
Hi, both the rear doors and now the front passenger door are not opening properly. What happens is when I pull the door handle to open the doors the door pins (not sure thats the right term - the things you push down/pull up to manually lock/unlock the doors whilst inside) drop down ever so slightly and lock that door :(, All I have to do is pull on the door pin with one hand whilst pulling the inside or outside handle with the other and the door will open, Sometimes when using the central locking one will decide not to go up/down. To be honest its becoming a bit of a pain in the arse.

I would like to know does this sound like the springs need replacing as stated in the sticky by lerk and if so where do i get the springs from?

Cheers.

Ps as im pushed for time at the mo I was just wondering is this a very time consuming/tricky job and would it maybe be quicker (but more expensive) to just buy the mechanisms complete from a breakers and simply replace?

Thanks :).

Landrover Discovery door lock springs 3 door set on eBay (end time 10-Dec-10 23:55:19 GMT)

phillipstuart33 items - Get great deals on Vehicle Parts Accessories, Cars, Motorcycles Vehicles items on eBay UK!

Worked for me takes at most an hour for each lock, and he provides instructions, but there is a thread on here telling you how to

as to other question alot more expensive, and you have to take locks out and put them back in for both methods, changing a small spring will take less time than travelling to scrappies and dismantleing 2 doors, only one being put back together, and you don't know how long those springs are going to last - 4 weeks later back for more lock mechanisms and expense

Have you tried greasing the mechanism? I had same issue last year, took door cards off, cleaned and applied fresh grease and had no problems since.

Right this is just a quick update: I replaced both the rear door springs today using that guy on ebay - please note they are "sided" so state which doors you need the springs for if you buy some - the 1st one was a bit of a nightmare as I had never done one before and took about an hour, I lost a tiny little clip in the door, and had a washer and also a spring that I couldnt figure out where they went (a quick look at the other side sorted that and it turned out the clip was actually on the floor and not in the door:doh:) the little spring had broken and the little replacement spring was quite tricky to get in but I got there in the end:) The second door was all sorted in about 25 mins (in the dark with my transit parked facing me with full beam on).

The result - Working rear doors, hurray! I did notice that one of the door pins didnt come up the 1st time I unlocked it so I just locked it and then tried again and so far no probs, Im gonna lubricate the mechanism on that side when I get chance.

So I just wanted to share with you that if your having the same trouble I had with my doors, for a few quid and an afternoons work you can get it sorted, I cant believe I lived with it like that for so long. Ive gotta do the front passenger one next but i not dong it tonight:).

Well done, always good to get a niggly problem sorted.

My drivers door is playing up, sometimes wont when I get out and shut the door it wont open again until I have pushed the button up or down, or locked and unlocked the door if I have the key in hand, and sometimes it wont open from inside, even if I lock and unlock it sometimes still get the problem.

I took the doorcards off to see if the wires were bent or loose but all ok.

I dont know if the little spring broken gives these symptoms though.

not too sure mate, if when the you pull on the handle the door pin drops down a milimeter or two and then your locked in/out then yes, but you should really just have a look, theres a sticky by lerk on here that you would find useful and it doesnt take too long. On both of mine the broken spring was still hanging from one of its holes and it was then obvious what the problem was.
