Did you carry out the correct procedure for changing the battery?

Remove battery.
Hold down both buttons for approx 15 seconds to drain residual charge
fit new battery
press the buttons alternating from one to the other to re-synch the fob. (It may take 10 or so presses to get it to work)

If it doesn't work after that then the chances are the fob may be faulty or may not belong to your vehicle.

My Handbook says same to change battery, but then to re-synch you should unlock the vehicle using the key, then operate the lock button at least 4 times.

Mind, when I changed the fob case, buttons and battery on mine it just worked without any feckin' about ... ;)

Depends what model Disco it is.... on my 300 tdi it was a different procedure to re-program your key fob.

What you have to do is put the vevicle into program mode
by.....

You Start with the doors shut the drivers window open the key in the Ignition and the Bonnet up but you need weight on the bonnet switch or a second person holding it down (But I use a tin of paint)

Now the next bit has to be done in ten seconds or you will have to start again.

Switch ignition on then off, lock and unlock the doors (with the pop up thingy), release bonnet switch, lock and unlock the doors again (with the pop up thingy), Switch ignition on then off again.

The horn should now have blipped once and the red indicator light on the dash should have come on.

If not start again

Press and hold the key fob button (for about ten seconds) until the dash red light flashes.

Then if you have another key fob press and hold that until the red dash light goes out.
If you only have one key fob you have to do the same one twice to make the light go off.

Job Done.

It sounds complicated but it isn't.
The stealers charge about £30 to do it for you.

Dosen't depend on model of disco, as 200's and some early 300's had a single button fob and the alarm sound if given by the horn.

You must have a single button fob as you can't programme or re- programme a two button fob alarm, but only re sync. and the alarm sound is given by an elctronic battery backup sounder.

Also a two button fob dosen't have a LED.

So looking at the original question then, the LED lights up so it must be the single button fob. in which case my instructions are the relevant ones.

On my TD5 the key fob is part of the key but on my 95 300TDI it was seperate. In the seven years I had it I had to replace them about every 18 months until I found someone in Nottingham who could supply a more reliable alternative to the OEM at about half the price. When I sold the Disco I'd had them about 4 years and were still going strong.

i have not got any lead on my keyfob ? its all plastic and rubber. i do how ever have some lead on my roof and my diving weights are made of lead but i dont see how this will help my keyfob when the battery goes flat.
whan i changed the battery in my fob it worked without doing owt.

If you remove a NEARLY FLAT BATTERY and fit a new one within a couple of mins. it shouldn't need re-programing. If however the battery has been flat or removed for some time it will have lost its memory.

Does any of the above apply to a TD5, I have just got myine back from having a new windscreen but now I can't get into the thing without the alarm going off!!. I have just tried a new battery and using rattty's method. I will try the unlock and press lock 4 times. I can't do the other method as I am sure the police will cart me off as the alarm will be sounding!!

Any Ideas?
James
