hey all, had a scan through for this prob but didn't find any answers.

got into the disco the other day, turned the key as usual and it didn't start, split charger and relays all clicked but nothing to the starter, stuck a live from battery to the ignition wire on the starter and it started fine, then i noticed that my leccy windows and interior lights don't work, when i press the switch for the windows the clock does dimmer and dimmer until it goes off, as does the CB, also it does it when i open the doors or turn on the interior light, tried a few batteries, all with good charge and heavy duty

ive changed all the relays under the dash and on the sides with spares from another disco, checked all fuses and they're fine, could it be a dodgy earth? all the lights, horn, heaters ect work fine on it though

any help would be much appreciated

cheers

All the power comes into the cab on a 200 via 1 wire. This is routed through a bulkhead fitting which you will find just above and left of the clutch pedal, and you can see it in the engine bay below the clutch master cylinder.

Check things are good here first!

Electric windows have their own earth where the centre cubby box screws down, I know this cos I left them off once and the windows went very crazy, different switches doing different windows etc. But it didnt affect anything else.

Good luck :)

have tried earthing the body myself but no joy, every other electrical thing works apart from starter off the key, windows and interior light, will ava look at the loom goin in now :)

nice one :)

sure is, looked at as many wires as i can and cant see any signs of melting or damage to anything, taken the fuse box out to have a look at that, that seems good too, really annoying now..lol

The starter motor is easy, it's one single wire that goes from the switch to the starter, on mine its White with red bands I think. If there's power at the switch and power coming out of the switch and power at the end of the wire then it's earth, if not, check the wire/switch etc

Interior lamps, well they have permanent live, a constant earth and a switched earth from the body switches. Investigate what you've got going on at the lamp, see what missing.

Take the window switch panel out, each switch has 5 wires iirc, on a 200 it's quite simple but a Haynes manual with the wiring diagrams will make it easier for you to find out wats missing.

As above, electric problems on 200s are never difficult, that's the beauty. I'm guessing from your avatar that we are talking 200 here!

yeah its a 200, ive been chasing some wires for the various things but the problem is linked between them all, like i said if i put interior lights on or use the windows the clock and cb gets drained of all power and and goes off then comes back on as soon as i either put the light off or stop pressing the window button, i'm only presuming that whatever the problem is is linked to the starter not getting feed from the ignition too as it all happened the same time, when i turn they hey the relay for the starter on the passenger side footwell clicks but no feed to the starter, but if i put a live there to the wire for the starter it will start, have tried a few different relays there too and still the same peoblem :S

I dont know anything about fusible links but you need to find out about them.

Apparently fusible link failure in 200s causes all sorts of odd things to happen.

They are soldered into the loom near the battery in my understanding, obviously land river changed their mind and fitted a normal fuse of there instead in the 300.

Search that out and all may become clear...?

Youre a star!!! lol just had a quick look with a torch, just so happens somone has actually completely removed the fusible links and just replaced them with some thin wire!! one snappe off and was all green when i moved them, re joined it to see and all the interior lights came on and the leccy windows worked, the starter did give it a go but cut off after a second, so gunna go over the rest tomoz, got another disco for parts so will see wht the ones on that are like and put em on this one,

big thanks for the info m8, will get back on here tomoz with the outcome :D

Yeeharr!

now share some info weith me in return - where exactly were they? because i could do with checking mine in advance.

cheers :)

mine are (well where) about 10-15" from the battery, down the main line form the battery to the bulk head, BUT ive just looked at the other disco i got here fpr parts and they not there, the main feed bolts onto a bit that goes thru the bulkhead then this splits inside into two main feeds which are brown, havent chased them yet as theyre behind the dash and it pouring with rain and theres no windows in the disco haha, if it's not raining tomoz i'll have a proper look as i cld do with putting them onto mine rather than re joining the wires someone replaced them with :S
