My 2002 TD5 is coming up for the 72,000 mile service.Haynes manual recomend the following. Ace filter replacement,seems straight forward so will have that done.Intercooler filter cleaned,is that neccassary as seems a long job ?I choose to have the garage do my maintanance as to old to get down and get under and any way I can afford it now LOL.
Also just a few other questions( sorry if too many)
Would you recomend EGR removal would it be worth doing ? also checking the fuel injector harness and finally what about the issue with the oil pump bolt ?
Lastly would it be better for a main dealer to do this work as my garage are good but limited with LR procedure.Cheers :blabla:
 
Deffo check the injector harness, well to be more specific, deffo whipe out the ecu and check the plugs for oil invasion.. easy to do and no leaning over..

As far as im aware the oil pump bolt only effects certain engines depending what date they were manufactured, i would check your engine code on this to see if yours is in the the problem area..
 
As far as Service go's, do it yourself or as you have said if you cant do it no point in my mind going to a stealer, get your good garage to do it, if they have worked on your motor before they will know the car more anyway

Sorry to sound stupid,the ECU is the box on drivers side by the engine,when you say plugs what are they ?

On the ECU there are two plastic plugs, one black and one red. On the red one there can be oil from a leaking injector loom migrating down the cable to the ECU plugs.


Re the oilpump bolt I would definitely do it/have it done during an engine oil change. It's a part that costs about £1.50 and could save the life of your engine. You would be wise to replace the engine sump gasket at the same time.

Is it a matter of you not wanting to do the work yourself? If that is the case, why don't you buy the parts you want to replace and then present them to your local garage along with the info from here:

The leaking injector loom can be fixed by either replacing it, or replacing the 2 'O'-rings that are the actual problem. 'O'-ring cost about £2, injector harness about £35.

Intercooler filter?? I don't think there is such a thing? Did they say clean the intercooler? - as that would be a normal suggestion and a good thing to have done.

Errr yes mate ;);) It's within the servo - the large black round thing on the drivers side, in the engine bay.

Personally I wouldn't bother with that, but only you can decide.
