The first thing is: what model, what year, what engine, what gearbox?

It's a landrover td5 discover 03 reg manual and it's done about 70.000 miles

Ok David, that gives me something to work with.

As you no doubt know these TD5 engines are electronically controlled with numerous sensors feeding data to the ECU. As such, the best way to identify problems is to connect them to a diagnostic machine such as Hawkeye or Nano EVO.

The engine will tell you if anything is wrong.

In general black smoke is a sign of unburnt fuel due to a lack of air, so I would be:

1. Changing the air filter for a new one, irrespective of when it was last changed;

2. Taking the turbo-to-intercooler-to-inlet manifold rubber pipes off and examining them internally for de-lamination;

3. Do a controlled test drive with and without the MAF connected and identify and differences.

Good luck

Dave

Thanks for repily big lad i do have a hawk eye and just leaning how to use it
The maf is about 55 at idal its not that old about 3 months
Air fillter is a k&n wich is about 8 months (old should I run with out temp to see if it makes a diff)
And there are no falts showing with the hawkeye
Is there any other test u would like me to do
Thanks for your help

That's what I was thinking but y the lack of power black smoke undoor load and mpg gone down plus now if I trun up the boost it don't trip the safe mode it's just don't feel like the same truck as it was when I got it

It as add a remap but that was done when I 1st had it and all was fine and as for the oil its been done regular but is about ready again thanks for your repily

Go to TD5/ECM/Live data on your Hawkeye and check the maf reading at idle again - should be about 55 to 60, then check at full throttle whilst driving along - should be about 550-600 ish.

Also whilst driving check the turbo modulator reading, should be 0% at normal throttle and rising to perhaps 8 to 10% at full throttle.

Have you checked the internals of the rubber pipes yet? My advice don't mess with the wastegate control at all, unless you know what you are doing.

No not yet I'll look at the reading on my way home at work at the min and I'll take the pips off to if the rain stops and let you no big lad

Ok Done some test with hawk eye and the maf dos go to about 650
The turbo wastegate gos to about 6.6 then 0.00 then gose to about 3.2 with pedal flat out

Looks like am going for new turbo at the weekend then thanks for all your help I'll let u no the what happens not sur y it gone so fast but somethings don't last as long as others
