Default Discovery Tailgate Lock jammed

Hi All,
I have a problem with my 1997 300tdi Discovery, which I hope someone can help me with. The lock on the tailgate seems to be jammed. The exterior and interior handles appear to work fine but nothing. It feels like the door is locked (which it isn't!) and it just won't budge. If I take the interior panel off,can I get to the lock mechanism to release it?Any ideas anyone? I would appreciate any help.

Hi Peter,
I had the same problem recently with my Td5, the handle became jammed and siezed, you can gain access to the lock mechanism thro the rear panel as you rightly siggest, but if your handle/number plate assy has the "Land Rover" Green Oval you can prise this out and lubricate the lock and handle, which is a rather crude affair, thro' this opening which saves stripping the rear door panel, speaker etc out. Hope this helps.

same here. as the first poster suggested, try 3 in 1 aerosol (better than WD40 in this situation because there is a spring inside which usually seizes up ) through the green oval . leave it for a short time and then try.

just an add -on .. mine had this problem and it turned out to be the child lock had come off its pin and was locking the door . The door worked from the outside though not the inside so it may be a different problem as these "more knowledgable " guy s pointed out

Brilliant! Worked like a charm in about 5 minutes (3 minutes were spent looking for WD40).
