HELP. Old Man with 300tdi Disco with (I think) clutch master or slave problem. Wont go into gear when engine running..but can start in gear with foot on clutch. wen lifting foot off pedal clutch starts to bite at 2/3rds travel. Does this meani need a new clutch (neigbour said so with big smile on his face !!) or could it be a master or slave cylinder problem ?
worried old git in surrey !!!!

Dont understand life or clutches (or women for that matter) However my way of thinking is if a clutch "goes" I would have no drive... If the plates are not coming apart when pedal is depressed, then surely the clutch is still there. If i start her up in gear, with foot on pedal the clutch is just biteing a bit.Now I have tried Bleeding the system to no avail. Would it be sensible for me to change the slave before throwing loads more of my hard earned pennies at a garage to have clutch replaced....any advice welcome please.. frustrated !:blabla:

The clutch release fork can wear on the pivot point, eventually punching through. This could be your problem. It could also be the baulk rings in the gearbox.

Thankyou Gratch, and all those that have partaken in my misery...looks like the Gearbox is a comin out ! just as well have a new clutch at the same time...
More to follow !!!!
